Bio / Background
Rick Overton is a native of New York who currently resides in Tokyo, Japan.
He is a graduate of both Berklee College of Music in Boston and Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia.
He has performed with and/or been associated with Teo Macero, Branford Marsalis, The Temptations, Four Tops, The Empire Brass Quintet, Donald Harrison, Cyrus Chestnut, Mark Whitfield, Mark Marino, Seleno Clark and Craig Boyd among many others.
He has performed in North America, the Carribean and Asia in clubs, events, concert halls and cruise ships.
He is currently an assistant professor of trumpet and Jazz improvisation at Tokyo College of Music and is credited as the first to develop an improvisation course at a music college in Japan.
He currently is consulting on the development of a course in Ecuador where one of his former students is working.
He spans many genres including studio work for various recording projects in Japan.
