Bio / Background
MIXED DRINKS is the second CD by Richard Bellak. (The first is FUGAL DREAMS-12 jazz preludes and fugues for piano) The five songs entitled FUNGI FROM YUGGOTH are based on poems by the great fantasy writer, H.P. Lovecraft, author of the FUNGI FROM YUGGOTH cycle. The Lovecraftian world depicted in these poems has a dark, interplanetary atmosphere. The FUNGI songs present Lovecraft's incomparable word pictures with music that underscores his true stature. Fantasy (Brass & Organ) and Toccata, Adagio, and Fugue (Strings) are purely instrumental pieces, but they share the Dreamquest atmosphere of Lovecraft's writing. Jazz Prelude & Fugue (Piano) adds some blues/rock, and the brass-accented Finale to Bruckner's Nullte Symphony concludes with its own special dramatic signature. It's an intense array of musical MIXED DRINKS.
