Melodic electronic headphone music. Assumably genre-free, but most closely associated with: IDM, electronica, beat-driven ambient and experimental. Intelligent sounds for your big, throbbing brain.
Bio / Background
Melodic, sometimes glitchy, sometimes breakbeat-style electronica/IDM/otherwise unclassifiable electronic listening music, introspective and atmospheric harmonies accompanied by a mish-mash of subtle and occasionally pummeling rhythmic sounds/structures. Serve chilled with headphones.
Retic is Douglas Teike, originally from Indianapolis and currently residing in San Francisco.
What is it about a piece of music that causes you to nod your head uncontrollably, induces euphoria, and can even make you see the world through rose-colored glasses? This artist hopes to tranlate these type of experiences to every listener. Music that recalls a sense of playfulness and a childlike naivete, often veering into dark and mysterious places, and always attempting to clear new territory and find an original voice in today’s music landscape.
↓ more ↓A genre clash if you will: experimental, ambient, hip-hop, impressionist, romantic, pointillist, post-classical, post-rock, but most certainly electronic at its core, and always keeping harmony and juxtaposition as a focal point and a building block. Sometimes pristine, often raw, broken, and decaying...
This is a CDR release with full disc and cover artwork, ideally suited for headphone listening. Produced by Douglas Teike and mastered by Twerk (Audible Oddities) in San Francisco. Each jewel case and all the original artwork is lovingly assembled and printed by the artist.
What others have had to say about RETIC:
“You have a great ear for harmony and melody”
"Too many 1/2 time drums layered over each other - sounds a bit 'manic' which is not my vibe."
“This is just the best stuff I've heard. With the volume of people doing electronic music these days, it's tough to find anything that stands out, but you've managed to reinvent.”
"Great texture. You should work towards a more interesting melodic structure."
“You have an incredible sound and capacity for new ideas in the upcoming music generation”
"So busy that it was hard to form an honest opinion. Just too much goin' on."
“I really enjoyed the tracks you've linked to. Warm and dreamy stuff”
"Not enough variation to keep me interested. Didn't feel like it really went anywhere."
(About SDT): "it's a gorgeous album in the vein of Boards of Canada, Tycho, and Nautilis. Unique in its own right and crafted with skill, you're really going to enjoy this one." - Shawn Hatfield/Twerk (www.audibleoddities.com)
“I love it. Tranquil, spooky, and blissful...” - Sean S./aka. Machsymbiont
