Bio / Background
Biography For Michael Reich A spirited performer with a powerful message and mesmerizing stage performance would be one way of summing up artist Michael Reich. For over 20 years, this singer/songwriter and guitarist has been captivating audiences with his memorable melodies and powerful vocals. Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on April 6, 1959, Michael grew up in the rural highlands and was attracted to music early in life. Around age 13, he began practicing the guitar; he was composing music by the time he was eighteen. After graduating from Meyersdale High School in 1977, Michael attended business school. He also studied broadcasting and worked in radio before trying his hand as a professional musician. Michael has currently released three albums: Pushing Hard To The Shore (1989), Before I Let It Go (2000), and Who’s Minding the Store (2003). He is inspired by world events and in turn produces music that inspires change. Topics on his albums range from human rights to ecology.
↓ more ↓Michael’s unique blend of pop, folk, and rock ensures a unique sound, yet it is entirely possible to discern similarities between the artist and some of his influences—most notably rock icons Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Since 1981, Michael has been a member of the ASCAP. He has traveled extensively across the tri-city area performing with different bands. For the last six years, he has been chosen to showcase at the Millennium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA, and his abilities as a lyricist have been awarded. Michael’s music receives airplay on radio and internet stations around the world. In 2003, his latest release off Who’s Minding the Store? was added to top ten lists for the year by Pennsylvania Musician Magazine. Michael recently released his fourth album with multi-platinum producer Mark S. Berry (IME, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Yes, Headstones and many more). His new disc features publishing by CherryLane (Black Eyed Peas, John Denver, Elvis Presley) and distribution through Universal. When Michael is not recording, he enjoys working on his house, visiting friends, traveling and, of course, listening to music. A powerful and memorable performance both on and off the stage means Michael will likely be serenading the masses through the airwaves for years to come.
