"...mostly quiet, fingerpicked stories of the road"
Bio / Background
Randall has been singing since childhood. He picked up his first acoustic guitar at age 14, and never let it go. Within one year, he began performing. He founded, managed, and fronted his first band the following year.
Randall left his native United States for the first time in 1992, and soon found his own folk/popular musical heritage being influenced by European traditions. The French-speaking acoustic guitarists Georges Moustaki and Francis Cabrel as well as Germans Reinhard Mey and Bettina Wegener made an indelible mark on his musical vocabulary. While living in Japan for two years, Randall soon found himself managing another band, and scheduling regular gigs in Tokyo.
Randall graduated from Principia College with a music major, and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Mons, Belgium, with a degree in concert singing. His vocal training has been a tremendous support to his songwriting, which stems from his experience as a traveler and communicator.
↓ more ↓It is no surprise that Randall's first CD is entitled Travel Songs. Released in December 2002, the 8 songs range from travel ballads like "Solvitur Ambulando" (it is solved by walking) to the melodic "Songbird," a quiet tribute to the late Eva Cassidy.
About Travel Songs: Mostly gentle stories of the road, like "The Daffodil Principle," based on a true story by author Jaroldeen Edwards. "War Stories" speaks to the simple desire to sit and listen to a friend that may be far away. And "Robin's Song" was written for a moment of reckoning when the world changes forever.
