Sweet and gutsy, tuneful and rhythmic, this acoustic duo’s debut CD is a surprising mix of originals and standards- a cabaret show delivered folk-style.
Bio / Background
You’ll never get a chance to be bored with Rahmil & Barley’s “Party of Two”. From the first song, the old standard “Ain’t Misbehavin,” which starts out as a friendly conversation, to a rollicking original blues tune (“Same Old Blues”), to a gypsy-like seduction song (“Invitation”), they keep you on your toes. Every song is a little gem in itself, and yet there is a common thread: all of them pertain to the complex relationships between two people. The glue that holds this album together, besides the theme, is the beautiful way in which Daphna Rahmil’s sweet soprano and Bruce Barley’s warm baritone complement each other, as well as their impeccably tasteful arrangements. Bruce’s bass lines are complex and unique, and Daphna’s violin can sing as well as wail. From the guitars down to the shakers, Rahmil & Barley played and sang all the parts themselves. A party of two!

- Paul Wagner, Music Career Consultant, West Coast Songwriters Association
Aptly calling herself a “haunted housewife”, this award-winning California songwriter paints vivid pictures of the world as seen by a woman coming into her own. Her music is rich and often unpredictable as she moves easily from style to style, defying any one genre. Her songs can be jazzy or folksy, Eastern-European in flavor, reminiscent of Broadway, or even have a touch of country. Whether sweet or saucy, Daphna always captivates the audience with her sparkling voice and her completely genuine performance.
ABOUT BRUCE
"Both soulful and fun loving- and he can turn on a dime"
Bruce wears a variety of musical hats. He started out as a drummer, but as soon as The Beatles came along, he felt the urge to learn how to play the guitar as well. Since then he has become an excellent bass and mandolin player too! He has been writing songs since he was a teenager, and is quite a crooner. He has been a member of many bands, from Rock' N Roll to Jazz, Folk, Country and Bluegrass. A ham at heart, he gets audiences young and old to respond with tapping toes, big smiles and sometimes a tear or two.
