Raglan Road have been classed as the newest Irish sound to have come out of America.
Bio / Background
Raglan Road is one of the most stylistically diverse bands in the world. This is an odd statement since it is also technically an Irish band.
The four members have such different backgrounds that, given the improvisational quality of Irish tunes (reels, jigs, hornpipes, etc.), one can only expect to hear a melting pot of influences.
From tune to tune and, in fact, within each tune the Celtic flavor is enhanced with elements of rock, jazz, disco, heavy metal, samba, techno, funk, country, and anything else that pops into the heads of these musicians.
But, tunes are not all Raglan Road has to offer. The band also plays original songs as well as Irish standards. The standards are played as only Raglan Road can play them- with unequalled flare and intensity.
One can hear an old favorite in a modern setting. The originals might easily be described as "rock music" but, of course, they too are splashed with the myriad styles Raglan Road has at its disposal.
↓ more ↓They have as much (and in many cases more) substance as any hit song one can hear on the radio.
The members of Raglan Road include Dominic Cromie (from Co. Armagh, Ireland), Matt Mancuso (from Brooklyn, New York), Ed Kollar and Dave Barckow (both from Woodside, NY).
Dominic Cromie is the guitar player and singer for Raglan Road. He gained his experience playing Irish music and rock music in Ireland and England. He then came to America and formed Raglan Road.
Matt Mancuso, who plays fiddle and trumpet, grew up listening to and playing Irish tunes and jazz. He has competed in the All-Ireland fiddle competition and placed 2nd three times? Ed Kollar plays the double bass in Raglan Road. He began playing the electric bass in rock bands before picking up the double bass to play jazz (which he still often does). Dave Barckow has been playing the drums since he was nine years old. He has appeared on numerous recordings by various artists of many styles (from country to heavy metal).
Raglan Road have performed in venues like Webster Hall NY, Toads Place, CT and venues as far away as Albany, Boston, Montauk and N. Carolina. Raglan Road have also performed on Z100, one of America's biggest radio stations and VH1 music recently.
One should not miss the opportunity to hear this band play or pick up a copy of the just-released CD "Raglan Road Live," featuring the unique arrangements of tunes and originals by Dominic Cromie and Dave Barckow that keep fans coming back for more.
