The songs on this EP are lyrically rich, california style country music, rippling towards americana, rock and blues; so diverse, so California.
Bio / Background
RACHEL RIVERO of GITANA MUSIC was born in San Francisco, California. As a small child she lived in Venezuela but was brought back to California at age three. Thus, Spanish was her first language, although English is her stronger language now. Her mother's family is from Nicaragua, but most of them live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
RACHEL lived most of her life in the Fremont area with her mom and sister. Family hardships took her to writing poetry and as time moved on her poetry became songs, writing her first one at age 12. Since that time, she did music wherever she could, school choirs, small ensembles, church choirs, Christian bands or church bands, and even some plays.
Rachel married at 23 and she and her husband had five children together. Through good and tough times music remained a mainstay of Rachel's life, mostly in church bands.
In 1995 they moved to the San Joaquin Valley and Merced became Rachel's new hometown.
↓ more ↓After a few summers hating The Valley, she began to realize there was a deep charm and comraderie amid the people of the region. Although born in the Bay Area, deep down, Rachel was a country girl. "Fremont was full of orchards when I was a kid. I remember
I loved it."
In 2004, because of divorce, Rachel had to step down from church music and began looking elsewhere to share her talents.
In a way, "maybe God is using this to cause me to branch out. I've written some of my best songs these last two years and I want people to hear them. I want to move others' hearts as mine has been moved."
Even through all this, Rachel's relationship with God, her children and her friend and sweetheart, Daniel, are solid. She hopes in the next few years to be able to continue on the path to doing more music than ever and especially being able to do her own songs along with Daniel who is an excellent guitar, steel, bass and mandolin player.
For three years now, Rachel has had the privilege of singing at the Rodeo Queen dinner and the summer of 2005, she had the honor of singing the National Anthem for the Merced County Fair Rodeo. "I love the National Anthem and I love to sing it. It's a wonderfully challenging song and so worth the effort. My heart swells whenever I hear someone sing it, so what a privilege to be that someone this summer. I can't wait to do it again and again!"
She hopes to pump folks up through her songs and as major population growth is changing The Valley, she hopes to bring renewed pride and a new attitude of hope to the California Central Valley, her hometown and the "breadbasket" of the USA!
