Bio / Background
If Shaft was living in southern California and he invited Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix over for dinner, QWIKSAND from Orange County would make a groovy side-dish. QWIKSAND are no stranger to party's, especially when it comes to spreading positive vibes with their music. When guitarist Ras, wrote "Concrete Cowboy" about draining and skating a backyard pool while his neighbor was on vacation, little did the band know that in less than 2 years, QWIKSAND would be performing across the western region with hundreds of radio stations now behind them. Their unique and original sound described as "melodic surf funk" has continued to grow in popularity earning QWIKSAND the love, support and respect of fans across the US while gathering solid reviews, television appearances, upcoming movie soundtracks and light to heavy airplay in over 150 cities throughout the US, Canada and UK.
↓ more ↓The band was originally formed in 2003 and was named QWIKSAND to honor those who've drowned surfing a dangerous wave called the "Wedge" in Newport Beach California.
QWIKSAND was chosen "One of the best independent artists in the Country" for 2006 by the Independent Artist Registry and the band is now in production filming for a reality based television project. Their debut single "Concrete Cowboy" recently jumped nationwide into Mainstream Commercial US Radio Charts hitting #11 on Hot AC Top40, #3 on Top30 Indie, #55 on the US Top100 and #8 on the Up & Coming Top40, and a brand new Music Video is currently premiering to over 12 million viewers worldwide on the Yahoo! Music Video Channel, Just EnoughTV, MSN Video Channel and French AAATV. In July 2006, QWIKSAND was selected a Top 100 finalist by NBC Studios on the new primetime network television series StarTomorrow premiering this month on NBC. **** "Qwiksand is a four-piece band that combines funk, reggae, rock, and ska influences for a stripped down California beach-tremolo sound... It's definitely got some serious groove, and I would recommend this to any fan of Sublime or subsequent projects. Beach rock at it's best! 4 Stars" -Maximum Ink, USA.
**** "It's one of the few bands that can resonate something akin to Red Hot Chili Peppers. They're gathering good reviews and are highly regarded as a hot new act. Their live show should surely be terrific if these songs are anything to go by." -Mediasearch, Victoria, Australia.
**** "With the ska of Sublime and the groove and funk of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Qwiksand have created something that is a welcome change from what you hear on your local modern rock station..." -Plug In Music, Media, Pennsylvania, USA.
**** "Seeing them live is even better." -Entertainment Magazine, USA.
