Daniel "Protocol" Steverson is a native of Paterson, NJ. Protocol grew up in a poor environment. At an early age my father left me to be the man of the house. My mother alone with four children struggled on welfare and food stamps. We were evicted from place to place. My mother eventually let the whole situation break her down where as she was depressed, looking for a man to replace that void. The end result of that was we were neglected, dirty, left alone often, hungry. I was the oldest so I was watching my younger sibblings which eventually led to us getting taken away from her to be put into foster care. My mother tried her best, but it overtook her will unexpectedly.
↓ more ↓My sisters and I had frequent visits with one another under dyfeus rules for a short period of time. For seven years we were in different foster homes. At this time i was bitter, angry, and didnt understand why this was happening. There were many short stories if you get what i mean. It seemed to me everyone around me was just lying to keep from hurting me any further. What dont kills you make you stronger. That's exactly what it did. I learned alot on my own growing up- from my first wet dream to my first official date, to my first crush to losing my load for the first time. In elementary kids use to clown me, because i didnt have the latest fashion of things. In fact I rarely had the decentest of things. I wore the same clothes to school, hair nappy and such. Its a long story yet i made it through that to the now. I made it through being homeless, almost getting killed in a car accident. I know there was an angel-whom god sent to save me and keep me alive so that I could use the gift he's given me in song through poetry. Im so passionate about my music. I go to sleep with it and wake up with it. Its in my heart and it hurts if im not doing it. I feel hes given me the gift to touch folks through my music-for will eventually touch that little boy, or girl going through what I went through. They can relate and grow stronger by keeping my songs close to their heart by crying, expressing themselves through music. My influence whom taught me that to be honest with your feelings in poetry besides god #1 was my big brother Tupac. I never got to meet him personally, but i could relate to what he was talking about. He spoke for me and others. Now its my turn to be the mouth piece for others as he did in my own way.
