Produced by and featuring famed keyboardist David Garfield along with special guests Lenny Castro and Larry Klimas this live recording features the original music of Potato Salad plus their new arrangements of tunes from Los Lobotomys and Karizma.
Bio / Background
Potato Salad is usually comprised of chopped cooked potatoes, mayo, and other stuff, but this Potato Salad has different ingredients that create an incredible sound.
The band was formed in early 2001 as an excuse to jam weekly at a local coffee house covering songs from LA bands Karizma and Los Lobotomys, both fronted by famed keyboardist David Garfield. Mr. Garfield was invited to play with the band, and he gracefully accepted which lead to him producing the bands' first recording project on the "Creatchy" label.
The name? Potato Salad is a product of a baked potato, which is also the name of a world famous club in North Hollywood, CA. The members of Potato Salad have been visiting The Baked Potato for over 20 years listening to great musicians play the music they love. Heavily influenced and inspired by these world-class players, Potato Salad was formed and named in homage.
↓ more ↓This debut album was recorded live at The Baked Potato and live in the studio and features special guests: David Garfield (George Benson) on keyboards, Lenny Castro (Toto) on percussion and Larry Klimas (Manhattan Transfer) sax and flute.
Potato Salad includes: Kurt Dohy and Doug Nofsinger on guitars, Dave "Beaker" McNichols on drums, and Felix Nunez on bass.
The track list includes new arrangements of songs originally recorded by Karizma and Los Lobotomys, bands which were lead by David Garfield and featured a who's who of the LA studio scene including Steve Lukather, Vinnie Colaiuta, Michael Landau, Jeff Porcaro, Carlos Vega, Simon Phillips, Jimmy Johnson, Lenny Castro, Nathan East, and the list goes on.
There are also several original tunes penned by the band with co arrangements by Garfield along with a Garfield original from the Karizma days with Vinnie that was never released.
