David Porteous is a Canadian singer/songwriter who currently resides in Toronto, Canada.
Now 23 years old, David began writing music at age 11. Since 1999, he has produced and recorded 14 independent releases, including eight LPs and six E.Ps, had his first radio play on CBC Radio 2 at the age of 14, written numerous film scores, which includes an HBO pilot, music for a nationwide run television commercial, owns a recording studio, has a honours diploma in sound engineering, and a degree in
documentary film-making.
The past year has been quite exciting for David.
In August 2006 David embarked on a five week journey for a new project called 'War Music'.
For five weeks David traveled through ten countries in Europe following the paths of soldiers who fought during World War Two.
↓ more ↓He went to battlefields, cemeteries, monuments, all the while filming every step of the way.
Not only that, but he also carried a guitar with him and wrote and recorded music, on-location, based on his experiences and feelings throughout the trip.
The journey was a great success with over 55 hours of film shot including interivews with soldiers who fought in World War Two, as well as over 25 brand new songs.

In November 2005, David released the world's first video album for theiPod video player. The video album, entitled "My Fallen Company", is a set of videos recorded on-location throughout Scotland. These locations include a cemetery, an abandoned castle, and even a cliff. The video album was reviewed by PureGrainAudio.Com and was quoted
saying "The project and ideas are so cool and unique…in fact, it's freaking sick." It is available for free download from http://www.davidmusic.ca
David also loves to perform live and he is credited with displaying a unique and energetic live performance. He uses a state of the art on-stage live looping setup which allows him to multitrack live. His showcase performance at the North by Northeast Music Festival in June
2004 was picked by NOW Magazine as a Critics Pick. He has also shared the stage with many great performers such as Emm Gryner, Matthew Barber, and Lindy, to name a few.
Many professional musicians have noticed Davids talent. In particular, Tegan And Sara have featured him on their website TeganAndSara.com many times, including support for the 2004 release of 'Missing April' writing "David Porteous has released another great album."
As well, both Gavin Brown (producer of Billy Talent, 3 Days Grace, The Tea Party) and Ian Thornley (singer of Big Wreck), have been spotted at a performance in Toronto. Ian Thornley was literally singing along to Davids songs minutes after the show started.
