Science Rock: Do you know where your science has been?
Bio / Background
Polski FIAT is a quirky, nuanced and energetic indie rock band based in Boston, MA. You're basic gritty 3-piece anti-jam band, Polski cranks out an onslaught of arrestingly distinct and surrupticiously witty songs, often changing gears 6 or 7 times in the span of a 2 minute long piece. All original, the band features a mélange of crunchy guitar progressions, dualing harmonies, lush computer sounds, and cerebral librettos to create a potent live show. The band obliquely proclaims its tunes as a novel genre called 'Science Rock.' This pioneering style meshes electronica with old fashioned rock 'n roll to provide smart, danceable music. Polski deftly blends a vintage look and sound wth sophisticated and futuristic compositional elements in an attempt to be either postmodern or to poke fun at anyone silly enough to use terms like postmodern.

Polski brings a sound much bigger than the sum of its three pieces on stage, fronted by two Magyar songwriting brothers MSO and JGO who frequently swap guitars, basses and stage positions, relentlessly impelling their maniacal drummer ELK to outperform the best efforts of modern techno beat machines with his bare hands and feet. (he's wearing shoes on his feet though). The FIAT first formed briefly in 1998 in the obscure backwater of Bridgewater, MA, and the boys have been writing and recording since then, mostly in their own garage-turned-studio, working to develop the secret ingredients for their paradigmatic flavor of indie rock.
When asked about their influences, the band would point to their scatological ramblings and adventures across the globe, where they picked up a taste for motorcade rock melodies, engineering electronica, prankish metaphysics, environmental punk, and theoretical multivariate differential poetry, interspersed with everyday beer & moral philosophy, and unaverage ordinary beautiful girls. Steeped in science, they nonetheless seem coolly unafraid to reject the dehumanizing manifestations of technological dependancy. Their synchronization of computers with organic rhythms redefines the conventional show, and their lyrics evince an exploration of ideas ranging from the grungy bathroom floors of post midnight pool halls to civilizational cosmologies not often pondered by typical rockers.
Although their message remains encrypted for now, fans can rest assured that Polski believes in the philosophy of rock and roll.
The band played a variety of gigs in 2003 ranging from college parties to shows at clubs throughout New England in support of their debut untitled album recorded at Zippah studios in Brookline, MA. After a quick winter tour up the East Coast in 2004 the band settled in to some club dates at favorite local venues TT The Bears, The Middle East and some NYC shows at CBGBs and Arlenes Grocery before gearing up for their sophomore effort "The Luddite Spy" After tracking through the summer and engineering into the fall the album is finally operational. The Polski Boys are shopping for a label and, if the fates be so kind, itching for a chance to fight at the 2005 BCN rumble.
