Eccentric pop and some progressive quirk with dreamy, ethereal and spacey overtones, touches of brit pop, glam and smooth jazz.

Plasmabat is my project for individual expression. I have put out two solo albums, the first, "Plasmabat", in 1987, and the second, "Compost", in 2002.
My name is Hugh Caley, and I grew up in rural Michigan. I moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1995, with a band that disintegrated immediately on contact with the ocean.
"There Was a Cock" and the others not mentioned below are eccentric pop songs.
"My Best Gilmour" and "Loopy" are instrumental techo/guitar pieces.
"5th Street Bells" and "The Lights Go Out" are solo piano pieces.
"Twangyjam" and "Sweet Dirge with Choir Patch" are "Fripp"-ish guitar improvisations (please see "King Crimson")
"The Echidna Song" and "Felis Culpa" are just goofy (I like the word "whimsical").
The songs are odds and ends I have recorded from the early 90's up till 2002; consistency was not something I was really striving for. Nevertheless, I think it flows pretty well.
↓ more ↓I like a lot of variety on an album. I also like to indulge myself ;)
Technically, all the music was recorded digitally on my Macintosh. The improvs were literally me plugging my guitar rig directly into the computer and recording what came out.
I took the photos on my digital camera of a beach about 1 mile from my adopted home, except for the inner headshot which was taken in my garage by a friend. I then prepared the final CD art using the free, open-sourced programs The Gimp and Xfig, using templates provided by the CD manufacturer, diskfaktory.com. They provided wonderful service.
Why "Plasmabat"?
To me the name symbolizes an interesting dichotomy in my own personality; I am highly interested in science, but dearly wish that there was more "magic" in the world; in the end, I think you have to make your own.
If you are interested, there are two CD's available from other bands I have been involved with, "Loomer", and "Lickitty Clit", both available at http://evileyerecords.com. The two "evil" people also appear on "Compost"; Lynda Mandolyn plays bass on "There Was a Cock" and "Detroit Haunted City", and "Loopy" is a sliced-up and re-ordered version of a guitar improvisation by Serge Vladimiroff and myself, our guitars panned hard right and left, respectively.
My greatest wish is that this CD will inspire others to do more "personal" work and release it to the world.
Hugh
