Industrial Rock with a hint of New Wave.
Bio / Background
"Pillars of Nein's Apathy is a great mid-90's style industrial rock album. Combining hard rock guitar riffs, vocals that seem to be a mix between Peter Steele and Gavin Rosdale, and soothing ambient keyboards, PoN manages to deliver a knock out punch! Their lyrics tackle everything from separation to drug addiction and, added with the delivery in the vocals, it give the words more emotional meaning, like a man contemplating his life up to this point. Their songs have 2 modes. While I love the rock out songs like Need and Coming Around Again, its their slower "ballads" that put the true power in this album. Songs like Epic and Broken Bones have an incredible amount of feeling in them added with the use of dark moody keyboards (and female back-up vocals in Epic). You definitely get a true sense of melancholy while listening to the band, even when they rock out. Maybe THIS is what Emo should be, that that sissy crybaby shit like Fallout Boy.
↓ more ↓I tell ya what, if emo sounded even half this good, it might be worth listening to. It's hard to pick a fave song on this album, because there are so many high-class tracks. However, I think the edge goes to Epic. It is the most musical of the songs, and it has this tendency to make you reflect on things, especially if you are in a relationship. Apathy is a brilliant work of industrial rock that shouldn't be passed up for anything!" -Roger, Tainted Reality, WIXQ 91.7 FM
"Polished production, solid vocals, sultry female back-up, and chugging guitars poured out of our beleaguered and battered speakers, and we were left speechless." - Daemon S.A.T.P.
"Apathy is truly a masterpiece. The band suggests you extinguish all sources of light to fully experience the darkness illuminating the Pillars Of Nein. I suggest you turn the volume way up for even more effect. You may never be the same." -Lucky, sugarbuzzmagazine.com
"The music conveyed anything but hate. Here we have richly textured rhythms accompanying strong lyrics and percussive grooves that interweave each other and provide a chilling backdrop to Nein's vocals." -Crave Magazine
"Apathy is a perfect balance of aggression and beauty, shifting from melancholic keyboard/piano themes to crushing Rammstien-like guitar sequences without a moments notice. Pillars of Nein have figured out the formula to both the alternative and industrial genres, if they can further harness that formula there will be no end to their potential." -Shaun Phelps Chain D.L.K.
"Guitar-laden industrial-flavored rock for the light imparied. Apathy captures the power of the Pillars live set and enhances it with studio wizardry." -Sonya , Gothic Beauty Magazine
"This music is a venomous assault of emotions that range from sorrow to angst, causing the listener to do anything from headbanging to swaying." -Ilker, Regenmag.com
"The music, Nein's voice, Chelle's back-up vocals are so gripping that I had their fingerprints imprinted on my wrists." -Tina, Wrankmusic.com
"Chuck Nein is an amazing vocalist, capable of quite the phenomenal range, and is backed by sensual and breathtaking female vocals on many songs, which only add strength to the already high caliber arrangements." -graveconcerns.com
"Apathy manages to expertly convey a wide range of feelings and attitudes. Full of bone crunching guitars, heavily structured sequencing and programming, addictive thumping bass lines, and torrents of blazing percussion, this is a band that has it together." -graveconcerns.com
"Pillars of Nein's slow, apocalyptic goth/metal is some of the most compelling music I've heard in a while. They borrow from classic bands like the Cure, but they pull together something that's original; dark and atmospheric, but still rock." K.S. -Portland Mercury
