Funky Feet – PP3 - Full Length Album
PP3’s new full length release “Funky Feet” has captured amazing energy, quality recording, and a well produced CD. Throughout this album PP3 dig’s deep from within amid seamlessly integrated storyline’s that evolve and refresh. I enjoyed every song on this album. PP3 consists of Phil Parnell, Torben Bjornskov, and Espen Laub they started working together during the January “Danish Deep Freeze Tour” alongside Lillian Boutte the vocalist, and from that point on they hit it off.
“Funky Feet” their newest release is the perfect example of a job well done out of Phil’s Village Studio in London, England. In this album the trio manages to hit different moods as the album progresses, it’s sound is influenced by a touch of New Orleans. “One Child” reminded me of being outdoors in the sun; it has a rich full sounding catchy rhythm.
↓ more ↓Another well produced track is “Torbsong” it has so many articulate sounds and a nice bouncy bassline. “Torbsong” is a good listening track
There are some excellent tunes on this recording, complete with dynamic flurries engineered upon crashing cadenzas and cascading progressions, the trio surges forward with a rumbling, free form gait that seems uncannily structured. At times they wind matters down into a minimalist framework that creates a semblance of desolate environs. Since its recent release, this album has become a critic’s favorite.

Torben, Espen , and Phil first met up and started working together on the annual January "danish dark deep freeze tour" with Lillian Boutte a few years ago. This rhythm section was tight. It was tighter than the democratic party faced with midterm elections in the sixth year of a baby Bush presidency. It didn't take long to realize that within this rhythm section there was a project afoot just aching to escape.
Phil packed some mics and flew to Denmark and the triad all hoofed it over to "Det Brunske Pakhus" in Fredericia , Denmark to lay down some tracks.
A few weeks later Torbs and Espen stepped off the plane in London where they recorded more tracks at Village Studio E17... Walthamstow... (well known hangout for shampoo and mascara bottle and bombers).... and the result as they say ... verrucae and all ...is Funky Foot history.
All cornyness aside...This has truly been a cooperative effort with everyone putting their best foot forward and being enthusiastic about the band as opposed to a bandleader/sideman (big toe/ little toe) type scenario. Everyone knows in a trio it takes three to do the hokey pokey and putting the right foot in is one of the first steps in making it work, but when three people all really have fun performing with close friends and good musicians it comes through in the music and the magic starts to happen, the fairies start to dance and and toes get tickled.
New Orleans expat living in London Phil Parnell is most recently known for his work with the various projects of Matthew Herbert and Lillian Boutte', Phil Parnell has written and recorded his own music on various labels as well as his own Village Studio label.
He has shared the stage over the years with a variety very notable artists, including Bettye Lavette, Dani Siciliano, Sam McClean, Red Tyler, Herman Ernest, George Porter, Jamie Lidell, Brian Blade, Smokey Johnson, Freddy Kohlman, Dave Barthalomew, George Porter, Red Holloway, Johnny Vidacovich, Herlin Reiley, Shannon Powell, and David Lastie embracing many styles and settings of music and is delighted to go from an eclctronic, experimental musical situation to a traditional jazz , gospel jazz, rhythm & blues, cabaret, solo piano, or big band scenario.
