If you're a longtime fan of Peter Mayer, or if your brand-new to his music, this album is terrific. The first track is a solo acoustic version of his famous "Molly O'Malley's," and if you have ever seen Peter perform it live, you know how amazing it is. Most of the other tracks were recorded live at the Fitzgerald theatre in St. Paul, and Peter with a band and audience is fun---see how he engages the audience on "Easy Street." He plays beautiful favorites like "The Birthday Party," "World of Dreams" and "Running With the Buffalo" and the sillier (but still engaging) "Canoe Song," "The Dark," and "Scatterbrain." Several songs were not previously recorded but were long-time audience favorites, ("O Sun" and "The Introvert Song") and he does a gorgeous cover of "Moon River" to close out the album. Peter's songs are always thoughtful and often profound. If you like folk music that's witty, warm, engaging, and smart, you will love Peter Mayer. He is a true Minnesota treasure, and this album gives the fan a friendly remembrance of live performances while introducing the new listener to Peter's magic.
