Acoustic rock with interesting, thoughtful and sometimes heart-wrenching lyrics, with bluesy guitar and harmonica playing and a touch of humour.
Bio / Background
Peter Brown has been writing and performing his own songs since the seventies.
WARM is his sixth studio album, if we count the two albums released in the nineties when Brown was part of the duo PASSION with his wife, Malaysian singer and keyboardist Markiza, and co-wrote most of their repertoire with her.
Warm consists of the best of his songs composed during the nineties, which are personal, sometimes fairly dark, sometimes almost witty and tongue-in-cheek.
Peter Brown has a talent for catchy melodies, and intelligent, thought-provoking lyrics on unusual subjects.
His music is romantic, heartfelt and often bitter.
WHAT THE PRESS AND OTHERS SAY ABOUT "WARM":
"The songs have catchy, poppy tunes...he's got a whimsical way with words too" Malay Mail, Malaysia
"It is indeed very nice to listen to something that was made out of pure love and passion for the art of songwriting.
↓ more ↓I thoroughly enjoyed it, having several favourites on the album myself" Indie record label boss
"Bringing in a surprising string of guests from Spunky Funggy to Julian Mokthar, the performances are first-rate, of course, but the innocent, irony-free quality of the songs carries with them the stamp of determined passion" Klue website: http://www.klue.com.my
"On this new collection of songs, Brown need not worry about indifferent public reaction. The musician is in commanding form...The strummy laments (such as the Good Samaritan)and bittersweet lullabies (Night Time) hold crucial balance in the mix as he digs deep to find the often heart-wrenching emotional core of each song on Warm" The Star, October 15th 2001
"The title neatly sums up the prevalent mood of the tunes on this sunny, spirited folk-rock effort... the songs of love, friendship, family and hope for a Better World have a nice downhome charm... and Brown... plays a mean blues harmonica and has an interesting vocal style that might remind you of Mike Scott of the Waterboys" The New Straits Times, Malaysia
"This eleven-track effort calls upon numerous lyrical themes and its musical eclecticism makes it a thoroughly enjoyable listen... this collection of songs is everything wholesome and musically pleasing - even in the darkest moments, there's always a breath of positive energy. But above all though, Brown's latest offering is a celebration of life." The Star, November 25th 2001
