Bio / Background
"Short Goodbyes-The Permanent Collection":
The creation of "Short Goodbyes" was governed by two main precepts. One, to be a thing of beauty, and two, to be about songs rather than the instrumental or improvised music Dave has played and loved for ages. The short lengths of most of the songs are part of the impetus for the double entendre of the disc title.
The songs vary greatly in feel and style ranging from rockers with big horn arrangements to down tempo earthy RB, spoken word/noise, and a Gram Parsons style country duet. Throughout though, the thread of sincerity without self-indulgence, lyrical content and lush arrangements enhance the discs cohesion and dynamic.
Over a year in the making, the self-produced disc was recorded at Dave's Lucky Devil Sound Studio's and mixed at San Pablo Recorders owned by bassist Jon Evans (Tori Amos', Paula Cole). Mastered by Michael Romanowski at Paul Stubblebine Mastering, SF.
