The premiere classical guitarist of the "Cellar in the Sky" restaurant at Windows on the World, plays early romantic, renaissance and jazz selections on guitars from the Rose Augustine Collection as reflections of his memories of the World Trade Center.
Bio / Background
Much has been written about the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and “Windows on the World” at floor 107. Reflections is meant to be a tribute to this unique architectural achievement and a celebration of the human spirit. The selections on this recording share my memories of performing at the WTC and express them through the universal and transcendent language of music.
Patrick Appello had the honor of being chosen as the solo classical guitarist for the premiere of the “Cellar in the Sky” restaurant in the Windows on the World complex in the World Trade Center in New York, NY. His career at Windows spanned well over twenty years, during which time he was co-winner of the Oscar Ghilia Guitar Competition and selected as the solo artist for the Master Class at the Aspen Music Festival. He has since distinguished himself with a career which has included classical and flamenco performances at major venues.
↓ more ↓For the past decade, Patrick has also dedicated himself to the study of Early Music. His Early Music performances include concerts with the New York Continuo Collective as theorbo accompanist. A graduate of Manhattan School of Music, he has a Master of Music degree from New Jersey City University and has studied guitar with Manuel Barrueco, Frederic Hand, Juan de la Mata, and Ana Maria Rosado, and lute and theorbo with Pat O'Brien, Lucas Harris, Eloy Cruz, and Grant Herried. Patrick taught at Westchester Conservatory and is currently a lecturer in theory and classical guitar at Georgian Court University and instructor in classical guitar and lute at Monmouth Conservatory of Music.
