Instrumental violin experimental electronic
Bio / Background
This is the first solo CD by violinist Patricia Strange. The matron of experimental violin literature since the 1970's, this offering presents new interactive works composed specifically for Ms. Strange since 2002. Each work represents a different approach to extended/interactive performance environments by five left coast composers. Also included is a free-for-all improvisation by master improvisor, LaDonna Smith. The works range from extended performance styles with computer generated accompanments to free improvisation to totally interactive hoots with systems such as Kyma and MAX/MSP. This is not music for everyone except those far enough left of center to enjoy being streched!
Pat Strange has participated on the new music circuit since the 1970s and performs regularly as a soloist and with her husband, composer Allen Strange. Collectively they have written a compendium of techniques for extended performance, The Contemporary Violin, published by Scarecrow Press.
