not just for lesbians who speak latin. Powerful, honest, and political spoken/sung word from an in-the-moment artist whose cd is for anyone who is awake, asking questions and looking for some fun...
Bio / Background
CARPE DYKE is a fun and smart celebration of self-acceptance!
The spoken and sung-word pieces on this CD deal with issues related to my identity as a homo...sapien who happens to be a citizen, a woman, a mother, a woman who loves women, a poet, etc... etc... This is a raw and honest look at how to let me be me.
Many folks tell me that after listening to the CD they've bought another copy for a friend who is newly coming-out, grappling, questioning. So many people helped mid-wife my coming out experience, I'm very honored to give a little support back...
the third person bio...
Pandora Scooter has been described as a performing poet and/or spoken-word artist with a pro-woman/pro-human/pro-dyke flair. For her breath, Pandora prefers the titles rhythmic ranter, rhymescape philosopher, mother, and human.

Pandora has featured in the following venues/festivals: NJPAC's Planet Hip Hop II, Cornelia Street's One on One Series (NYC), Equality Forum (Philadelphia), LadyFest Philly 2003, Invisible Women (Hue-Man Bookstore, NYC), Nuyorican Poets Café's Youth Slam (NYC), Blue Stockings Bookstore with Mahina Movement, Queer Poetry & Fairy Tales (Asbury Park, NJ), and Domestic Partnership Celebration (Maplewood, NJ). She's been heard on GenerationQ and Highest Common Denominator on WRSU 88.7 FM as well as on WBAI's OUTFM. In November 2002, Pandora started up OUT OF THE BOX, an open-mic series for all types of performers that is held monthly at the Pride Center of NJ and is still going strong!
In June 2003, she co-wrote/performed the two-person agit-prop play SCOOTER & BOOTLICK: A QUEER CONTRACT ON AMERICA (a kind of theatricalized Get-Out-The-Vote rally), which was presented as part of H.E.R.E and Dixon Place's Fuse Festival. On CD, Scooter's pieces have been included on Abstract Flavors' Poetry Series Volume One and Poet Warriors. Her own self-produced, solo-CD called CARPE DYKE was released in April 2004.
Her one-woman rant, FEAR JUNKIE received a star rating (for noteworthy) from nytheatre.com this summer when it was presented as part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival (July 2004). The show was developed at New York Theatre Workshop's Larson Lab in April, 2003. Since then it has been presented as part of the manhattantheatresource's Estrogenius Sola Voce festival (Oct. 2003); Columbia University's 'Under the Volcano' series (Nov. 2003), the New York Solo Play Lab (Jan. 2004), and the Women's Festival at the Asbury Park Black Box Theatre. It was published as part of manhattantheatresource's Estrogenius Festival plays.
Why I do what I do:
Once I had this box
it was just covered with all these locks...
there was no key in sight,
kept it hidden with all my might...
...now I have this box,
it has been freed from all my locks
and awaiting me inside does sit:
another box,
but I won't quit.
-- first and last stanza's from my poem BOX
-- early winter, 2001
Opening voice boxes, storage boxes, check-all-that-apply boxes and all other actual and metaphorical boxes --- so that we can experience ourselves and each other with an unobstructed view of the beautiful landscape...
