It is an honour for me to be asked to write about the Paganini Duo.
I have known Polish violinist Gustaw Szelski of the Paganini Duo since our years at the Sydney Conservatorium. He was envied for his incredibly beautiful sound.
Like all of us he was asked to do auditions - to get used to it - but in difference to us he got a position on the spot. He played during the next years in all the big Australian Symphony orchestras.
When I met him again he had freelanced, backing up people like Frank Sinatra, John Denver, Shirley Bassey, Marcia Hines, the Little River Band.
He had just started the Paganini Duo with the German cellist and guitarist Georg Mertens (Mertens-Moussa 1990-2002).
Their ensemble work is remarkable.
