Bio / Background
"RON OVERCASH and the NU BLOOZ BAND--ALTERNATIVE BLUES"-a unique blend of Blues, Rock, and Country influences that make these songs unlike most you've heard before.
Hard to label this sound--in the genres category, it was listed as "sounds like Eric Clapton and Albert King"; but those are just influencial artists, not that they sound like these guys. If you find that this material reminds you of a particular artist, I would like to hear from you about it. I can't think of anyone that it reminds me of.
Here is some info about the players on this CD:
PHIL ARMETTA--Guitar and Slide Guitar--hails from New York City where he was a studio musician for numerous Jazz and Rock recording projects. He played with many Chicago blues artists thru 1997 when he played with the "GRAMMY AWARD WINNING--OTIS RUSH BAND", untill 1999. He recorded with the "NU BLOOZ BAND" until late 2004, when he returned to NYC; where he is currently promoting his own project.
↓ more ↓JOE ZAKLAN--Harmonica--From the Chicagoland area and has played with all the bluesers, in town and out; to include:
"WILD CHILD BUTLER", the late, great "A.C. REED", and "STUDEBAKER JOHN and the HAWKS". Twice he toured Korea with Disco and Pop bands. He is multi-talented, playing harmonica on "Sweet Daddy" and "Divorce Blues" on this CD; as well as being quite an accomplished guitarist.
ANTHONY SPACE--Keyboards--He has been playing Jazz and Blues for more than 20 years(in and out of Chicago); most notably with the "JAMES COTTON BLUES BAND" from 1990 to 1994. He has toured with "OTIS RUSH" and "SYL JOHNSON" to name a few. He has also been recording with the "NU BLOOZ BAND", and is now promoting his own project.
WILLIAM GREEN(special appearance)-Keyboards--Also from Chicago, has played Jazz anf R&B throughout the world; including 1989 thru 1998 with the "PEABO BRYSON BAND". He has had tour dates with "CAMEO", "JENNIFER HOLLIDAY", and "JEAN CARNE"; and is currently(as of August 2005), touring with the "GRAMMY NOMINATED--SUSAN TEDESCHI BAND"---
as well as, promoting his own CD release "MAGIC DREAM".
AARON TURNER--Drums/Percussion--Another Chicago native that has a wide range of musical credits spanning more than 20 years. Played with "JR. WALKER and the ALL STARS" in the U.S. and Europe; played more than 2 years with the "PEABO BRYSON BAND" inlucing an Asian tour; toured with the "JIMMY JOHNSON BLUES BAND ", in the U.S. and Europe; the "JOANNA CONNOR BLUES BAND", and backed up "PATTI AUSTIN", "CELINE DION", and B.B. KING on selected engagements. He has recorded with the "NU BLOOZ BAND", and is currently(as of August 2005), touring with the "SUSAN TEDESCHI BAND".
RON OVERCASH--Bass and Vocals--Born in Baltimore,Md. and raised in North Carolina; he started to play "Show and Dance-college parties" during the late 50s, he listened to a blues radio station out of Galatin, Tennessee(WLAC-from 11:00pm til midnite) which was the only station within 500 miles playing the kind of music he liked to hear; to get his inspiration. Over about 45 years, he has played on concert stage with acts such as "THE ASSOCIATION", "THE DIAMONDS", and "FRANKI VALLE and the 4 SEASONS"; as well as in bands backing up "THE DRIFTERS", "THE COASTERS", and "AARON NEVILE"(in 1968).
But those early years in North Carolina(listening to WLAC) has influenced much of the music you are about to listen to.
This CD is a compilation of songs that is not your run-of-the-mill blues. It has has songs which may be considered to be outside the "Blues Genre". It has traditional sounding songs(with a twist) and every song on the album has heavy blues influences; like "SONG FOR RANDALL" approaches the country side, but still bluesy; and "CENTERFOLD", sounds like an old R&B song with "Rap" lyrics over it. And the virtuoso instrumentalist "William Green", takes a simple 2 chord groove("INFATUATION") and makes a production out of it. So, I guess "ALTERNATIVE BLUES" is an appropriate title for this album, for after all--it's still nothin' but the BLUES. This album's for you---ENJOY.
