Bio / Background
The song is Queen.
"We wanted to make a record that had no creative boundaries, a record that stemmed from many genres and influences. We knew our fans and critics would appreciate a record with depth in a marketplace where most records seem to have similar track after similar track."
Sticking to this ideal pays off in the outerdrive debut release, Sundays at One. Produced by Joe Ross (Adrianne, Boston Pops Featured Artist Robin McKelle), this record offers a truly eclectic mix of songs ranging from edgy and aggressive to tender and passionate. The variances in instrumentation and treatment engage the listener in many ways. Michelle Schrag fronts outerdrive and is a singer who conveys true passion in the many ways these songs were written and intended.
In Strings, Schrag tries to come to terms with life issues we all deal with.
↓ more ↓Comfort Zone is a politically charged song that expresses disgust that racial prejudice is still widespread: "Who the hell are you, to judge a man by his skin tone?" Manic explores the struggles of trying to understand a friend's mental illness.
The live show strives to add a raw energy to their set, choosing to forego some of the hi-gloss polish present on their album. In addition to Schrag's dynamic vocals, live performances feature the rich, emotion-filled harmonies of Laura Soucie, and the musical and textural guitar playing of Jim Siwek.
To compliment their live sound, outerdrive turned to Jason Blake, Chicago's premier Chapman Stick player to join the band. Blake's use of the 8 string Chapman Stick Bass allows him play both bass and melodic lines, providing a sonic glue between the guitar and rhythm section. The hard-hitting Todd Carlson completes the rhythm section on drums.
Experiencing both the live performance and Sundays at One, the listener enjoys a product that is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
Merge onto outerdrive and enjoy the ride!
