Hello... Psychedelic alternative Rock with flowing melodies and etherial, exotic, arrangements with en electronic swirl. Influenced by Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Beatles. (melodic, psychedelic, experimental)
Bio / Background
OTAR loves a wistful melody in a waltz///OTAR is the ache in his voice///OTAR is the guitar that weeps and moans///OTAR writes songs that make his whole body sing///He writes songs that make everybody cry and laugh///OTAR lives for music///REBEL RECORD is OTAR – its charged, sincere, melodic, politically outspoken and at times quite ferocious.
Some Quotes:
“REBEL RECORD is a powerfully defiant album with tremendous musical range and fluidity, and a unique electric sound. Reminiscent of Beatles, Floyd, Radiohead and Zappa” – Arthur VanDelay, E-Musician Magazine.
“REBEL RECORD is an inspired and artfully performed statement that will blow your socks off." - Tom Giraldi, Chicago Voice, 9/2006.
REBEL RECORD features Otar Taktakishvili (a classically trained pianist and multi-instrumentalist and guitarist for technofunkrock band The Gglitch) on guitar, voice, bass, piano, organ and many other instruments, and a gifted young drummer, Adam Morford on drums.
↓ more ↓Music was recorded in Otar’s Fat King Studios in the tranquil and eerie seclusion of the lonesome midwest. The album has a distinctive style that defies classification, but perhaps may be described as Psychedelic/Alternative Rock. It is driven by flowing melodies, fluid arrangements with smooth transitions and deeply textured, electronic undertones. The album’s rich production is evident in such songs as “Kid Klash” and “Venus’ Embrace”, while its elegant simplicity is expressed in “Alone” and “Drift”.
Lyrics to the first track “Kid Klash” try to seek relief from the pressures of society and the rigid education system that are imposed on us all, as we grow up to live in this cluttered, often confusing, super-sized world, where imagination is replaced with videogames and books are devoured by the TV and we’re bombarded by blasting decibels of commercials.
The words to “Pedro Loves Candy” humorously and candidly address the class struggle in the USA, and create a hilarious love triangle between a rich Hollywood boy (Dandy), an exotic dancer (Candy) and a young Mexican gardener (Pedro).
“Front Line” laments the separation and grief of a young soldier headed to war.
“Tsunami” paints a poetic story of the shocking Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004, with the music exploring the swelling surf of the devastating wave.
"Sometimes I feel that I can speak with the guitar (while improvising with the band), and feel that people can understand what I'm saying to them emotionally. That connection with the audience is the most exhilarating feeling for me in the world. Almost as a good as sex. Usually equally sweaty and loud" - OTAR, 8/2006
Poweful songwriting combined with incisive social and political commentary and sophisticated, artful arrangements combine to bring you a unique album where every song is an equally important part in the jigsaw puzzle. Hear this album and you will love it. Guaranteed.
