"The Nugget Brothers explore that dark world of psych-pop alt-country haunted by Gram Parsons."
The Music Korner

Even if the other four cuts on this EP weren't any good, this eponymous disc from New Jersey's The Nugget Brothers would be worth buying just for the infectious, slightly twisted and dark Wall of Voodoo goes twangy country opener "Piggy". Thankfully there's plenty more here to love like the sing-songy pop hooks of "Styletown" and the quirky sounds of the dark, twangy "Stuck". The only setback here is that there's only five songs. Hopefully a full-lengther is somewhere right around the corner.

THE NUGGET BROTHERS / self-titled
A Montclair-based three-piece with a drum machine named Dr.Rhythm and a healthy sense of humor, these former members of King Penguin, Doogs, and Side Kixx produce a droll, deadpan, caustically rockin' alt.

"Upon listening to your music, I was reminded of that peculiar, alt-country sound similar to that of groups like The Handsome Family or Souled American. Its a great blend of odd ball tex-mex and indie unconventionality"
Bio
From the sawdust covered floors of a backwoods beer joint, to a psychedelic dope den, The Nugget Brothers' sound is a unique melting pot of styles. From an early age, founding members Brian Peterson (Guitar/Vocals) and actual brother Mike (Guitar), have had the floodgates open to all styles of music, creating this eclectic blend that today is the philosophy of the Nuggets' music. Having played in multiple bands (Side Kixx, King Penguin) in the New York City area, they gained experience through playing hundreds of shows. One of which landed them smack in the middle of Times Square as part of the Clean Up New York campaign, sponsored by Z100 FM.
They've worked with Joey Gmerek (Hit & Run Publishing), and spent many years under the management of Joseph Reed (TRX Entertainment), who's credits include great jazz producer, Helen Keane, Bill Evans, and Joao Gilberto.
Now having teamed up with bassist, Scott Kastner (Doogs, who's song "Santa's In Jamaica" received quite a bit of airplay on New York's 102.7 WNEW), and Dr. Rhythm (drum machine. first gig.) The Nugget Brothers are giving the face of Alt./Country a new look. (tragic as it may be!)
The Nugget Brothers can currently be found playing regular shows around NYC's top venues, and have opened for national touring acts such as Two Cow Garage, Jack Grace Band, and Babaloo.
Their song "Styletown" was given a Billboard World Song Contest Honorable Mention Award in 2004, and they will be featured on the upcoming "Buzzlighter" compilation due out in early 2005 on the Shut Eye label.
