Bio / Background
This album with its beautiful, motivating, catchy, danceable songs and lyrics is by the sensational Jamaican "Studio One" Reggae artist whose "First Cut Is The Deepest" got her voted the best female newcomer in the U.K. Norma Fraser recorded duets with other reggae legends such as Ken Booth ("Give Me The Right"); Lord Brynner ("Malika"); Lord Creator ("We'll Be Lovers"); and Slim Smith ("Do You My Love"). She recorded many songs for the famous "Studio One" label on a variety of its related labels with varying success.
Norma Fraser is considered a true "Jamaican Reggae Legend." The great Bob Marley, label mate and a friend, sought out Norma during the early seventies to sing with him but Norma had turned "sour" on the music business at that time and went into "musical hiding."
Norma's "First Cut Is The Deepest" has long been a "Studio One" favourite both with Jamaican and international audiences.
↓ more ↓Not many Jamaican female reggae artists write their own material as this artform was not encouraged. Norma is a rarity. This music has been dominated by males in Jamaica for many years and Norma has decided, "it is time for a change." Norma's latest CD, "C'Mon Baby," has something for everyone. It is a diverse musical project and a departure from her strictly roots reggae style. It is guaranteed to please any music fan who is looking for a universal love theme entwined in some reggae, ska, ballads and bouncy pop.
The CD speaks to relationships that are spiritual and social in nature and offer hope and universal love to all. Affairs of the heart is also portrayed as well as man's capacity of inner strength, clear vision and integrity in a most revealing and intimate way.
Her lyrics generate an aura of understanding the human experience in an astute, convincing, uplifting and positive way while offering hope to all who dare to listen.
The ultimate reward of this CD is a compelling affirmation of universal love.
Norma's compositions contain many references that demonstrate how one can overcome life's obstacles by mastering the art of tapping into one's inner strength in order to obtain a desired goal..this is achieved, she maintains, by working together as one.
This CD truly reflects Norma's Jamaican, multicultural, tropical upbringing which are deeply rooted in the appreciation of life's simple treasures and in Academia.
Norma has a M.A. (Master's Degree) in the human sciences....this training is evident during Norma's live performances...her audience "feels" the love and respect she generates and transmits to them..her shows are full of electricity and life.
Peace and Guidance to all!!!! (Norma's Maxim).
