Bio / Background
For years, Jim Neyerlin has expressed his extreme frustration with conventional wisdom through his music. Now, after teaming up with five of Buffalo's finest musicians to form a new edgy, "alt-rock-folk" band called Jim Neyerlin & The Legends, you can't help but listen to what he has to say. Neyerlin, a songwriter who draws his piano melodies from a variety of classical, country, Celtic, rock and Spanish influences, originally joined forces with guitarist Doug Tyler and drummer John Lynch to form Rockasarus. This hard-driving rock and roll band known for its blistering guitar riffs and steady drumbeats, gained popularity in the 1990s by playing in notable Buffalo - Niagara Frontier venues. The trio, renowned for their trademark, high energy "sweat-fest" performances, recently added Joy Batkin on violin, Chris Klimecko on keyboard, and Tom Keefer on bass, guitar and mandolin.
↓ more ↓The result finds Jim Neyerlin & The Legends experimenting with a new chemistry yielding complex arrangements and blending various musical styles. The band's first and Neyerlin's third CD release entitled Mission Statement employs satirical and witty observations to recognize the injustices surrounding each of us, balanced by a reverent plea for an optimistic future. Mindful that their mission is their statement and their statement their mission...
But our time slips away as a petal falls from a Spanish Rose.
And all that we see will wilt and die, like a Spanish Rose.
Just take a look around, it could all come crashing down,
just rubble at our feet, gone forever
I hear the voice of reason. It's shouting out to reach us.
It's calling out our names. And if we choose to listen,
it's giving us a mission; It's showing us a way.
From Spanish Rose by Jim Neyerlin
