Bio / Background
JASON NELSON: BRAND NEW DAY
Born and raised in the Dallas suburb of Grand Prairie, TX singer/songwriter/worship leader Jason Nelson launches into a brand new realm of ministry with the release of his debut album “Brand New Day.” This diverse collection of original music is reflective of his complex walk with a simple, yet mysterious God.
Throughout this project, heavy guitars sit side-by-side with lush piano melodies. Matched with lyrical depth and riveting vocals, each song takes the listener to a place of desire to want to know God deeper and praise Him more passionately. Each song is impeccably performed by the talents of Gene Cowherd, Al Ehrhart, Corey Schob, Deon Nelson and Jen Cowherd.
Since his first church in the Dallas metroplex over 13 years ago, Jason has led worship in local churches throughout Texas, Georgia and Florida.
↓ more ↓His ability to connect with the congregation in an authentic, passionate and exciting way has allowed him to see phenomenal growth at each church he has worked.
The song that resonates the most with Jason is the title track, ‘Brand New Day.’ As he says, “This song keeps me accountable so many times. I tend to get too busy and stressed out, but this song reminds me to chill. But, more than that, it reminds me of the verse, ‘God’s mercies are new every morning’ (Lamentations 3:22-23) and that no matter how bad today may be, tomorrow I get to start all over.”
Perhaps the title track is fitting to this new direction in Jason’s ministry as well. While his number one passion lies in the local church, Jason sees this project as a way to make the entire world his congregation. “I’ve been given a gift,” Jason says. “If I bottle it in and only share it with those within arms length, what a waste. I’m the only one that will be held accountable for what I did on this earth and I want to have a good answer for God when He asks me ‘What did you do with the time, talents and treasures I gave you?’”
With that kind of heartbeat and passion, it’s probably not out of line to think that God is smiling on Jason.
Jason has been married to Deon since June 1995. He is also the proud father of Kristin and Anna, and has a dog named Zoe and a cat named Smokey. Jason and Deon make their home in Tampa, FL where Jason is the Executive Director of Celebrate Ministries and worship leader at Van Dyke Church and Deon teaches elementary music in Tampa.
