Rooted in the great American folk vein, but dowsed with heartfelt absurdism, crafty lyrics, and a classical lean. Lots of male-female harmony, cello, piano, blues harmonica, bells, choirs, chickens, checkout aisle beeps turned into an EKG machine, etc.
Bio / Background
Hey there! So, we do like to brag and stuff, but we figure you'd be more impressed by other people doing it for us. Here's what decent people will say about you if you can pay them enough money:
"Nate and Kate are a truly unique combination of beautifully crafted music and the urge to just feel good. Their stories are woven together with creative melodies that will have you singing all day long. Music is everywhere these days, but it's tough to come across genuine performers anymore, but this family friendly group will put smiles on the faces of all." -Kris Capulet, DJ - WICB FM - 91.7
“The soulfulness of Kate’s cello, the driving folkish rhythm of Nate’s guitar, and the beautiful harmonies that the two weave together when they sing make you want to smile and dance and cry for joy all at once.

Recent Press:
“Folk guitar and cello, upbeat and original…this duo has a unique perspective on life, like [that of] a person who sings a lament while doing a backflip” -Emily Koester Muse Magazine
“Nate…hands me his guitar and sits down at the piano, his voice going back and forth between a gentle, Nick Drake singer-songwriter vibe and a mature, Tom Waits-ish soulfulness. … “I think mostly what college did was give me time to learn to play guitar and juggle, which is how I make my living now,” he says. Nate’s songs have the same sense of randomness as his career path-the song TTYL talks about the strangeness of a relationship over instant messaging, complete with sound effects. Up on stage Nate and Kate’s most profound energy is an incredible sweetness-not all hearts and flowers, but more like a dead bird tied to a red helium balloon.” -Steve Rokitka, BUZZ Magazine
About Nate and Kate:
Nate and Kate were both born and raised in rural upstate NY. At 16 or so Nate learned to sing and play guitar with the local church choir. He began writing songs and has now written over a hundred original songs. He also released 2 1/2 solo albums before “Nate and Kate” was born. He now also performs as a professional juggler on the side and can balance an upright bass on his face. Kate grew up singing and playing cello from the age of 4. She has performed in numerous orchestras, string ensembles, and choirs through grade school and college including singing is some of Italy’s most magnificent cathedrals as well as New York’s Avery Fischer Hall with the Hamilton College Choir. She and Nate met and began playing together in Binghamton in early 2005 and toured the mid-west in Fall ’05. Their act has been many times called “awesome” and “unpredictable,” and has been well-received in unfamiliar places. Nate and Kate are excited to be now based in Ithaca, NY and look forward to playing locally as well as returning to the road.
"We just want you to love us." -N&K
