Bio / Background
North Carolina born singer/songwriter Mysha Caruso raised his creativity in the performing arts. Attending art schools from a young age forward, he developed a potent stance in musical and dramatic theatre, playwriting and all of the theatre's attributes.
When his mother, a harpsichordist, gave him a guitar at age 13, Mysha explored different music styles, performing and often writing for a rock band, a jazz/blues ensemble and then eventually rooting in Folk and Bluegrass. Mysha travelled and performed with vocal companies in Choral and Madrigal music and a Cabaret theatre group in New York where he engaged in intensive performance training. While performing with the Wheelock Theatre in Boston, Mysha was developing his songwriting skills in the troubadour tradition, busking in Cambridge, Massachusetts and in coffeehouses around his homelands.
↓ more ↓Inspired by his heritage in the Folk-arts traditions, Mysha expanded his poetry at Nature schools and camps in the mountains of North Appalachia where he worked with the Appalachian Mountain Club. It is there where his poetic observations made an affinity with Nature studies which reflected in his songwriting.
While attending the Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts at age 17, Mysha trained classically in Opera and vocal performance, and with the school's affiliate the New England Conservatory of Music was guided onto the stage to perform in Operettas and Musical Theatre. These theatre works led to his own experimental theatre group-Horizon Theatre. As playwrite-poet, director, actor, composer and choreographer, Mysha delivered a fresh angle to the expressive arts and carried that forward. At Marlboro College in Vermont he focused on the power of the word and eventually emerged with a clear direction in performing his original stories and songs with guitar. After the college experience Mysha wandered the troubadour trail performing.
During this time he has produced and promoted Folk music concerts of his own and for other artists. For a year he performed on bass guitar with the Americana outfit -Feta & Shiraz. A multi - instrumentalist, Mysha plays guitar, mandolin, harmonica, banjo, dulcimer, cittern, and Irish flute to name a few. After several makeshift recordings Mysha released the studio project Mysha:A Bright Beckoning in 2004. This collection of Celtic-Folk instrumentals and poetic ballads was featured on NPR shows, RenRadio, scored for the Indie-film Dreamtime Yoga and some selections will be included in the soundtrack to the upcoming Indie-film The Invisible.
Mysha produced and performed on the third album Omachi by artist Kalyani in 2005. Now he has released his new album Where We Belong. This album is a map and compass, in a way, for how his life is shifting shape .
