Bio / Background
Marching under the unfurling burlap banner of the West Coast folk and renaissance music movement, The Merry Wives of Windsor are delighted to present our third CD, Tales from Windsor's Tavern. Founded in 2002, MWOW has amassed an impressive body of traditional and original folk music.
From their rollicking, hard-hitting, bawdy numbers to their soulful and melancholy ballads, these ladies have captivated audiences wherever they perform. Tales from Windsor's Tavern shows a depth and maturity to their music which promises to please whether you are a fan of the pure traditional tunes or their rollicking original pieces.
These eleven vocalists sing in three- and four-part harmonies, accompanied by guitar, Irish bouzouki, mandolin, accordian, recorder, fiddle and bodhran. They have developed a remarkably modern sound, yet still remain true to their inspirational roots in folk music.

I first heard of this band on the Irish and Celtic Music Podcast by Marc Gunn (www.celticmusicpodcast.com) - their music is fun and irreverent, combining the best of Irish trad music with fresh interpretations. I would expect to see them at a Renaissance Faire, roaming around the grounds, singing and flirting with the audience. Jenny's Story is my favorite, putting a fun story onto a well-trodden trad melody (Whiskey in the Jar). They sing well together and individually, both a capella and with instruments behind them. Well worth a listen!!
