Smooth, sultry vocals, and an addictive, foot-stomping mixture of Rhythmic Pop, Soul, and Jazz.
Bio / Background
A little over a year into her solo venture, Jen Murdza is quickly gaining notice. With a well-received debut EP in her back pocket and a much anticipated full-length album due this summer, Jen is carving out her unique sound. Audiences are consistently amazed by this soulful voiced petite blonde nearly hidden by her guitar.
Murdza's original music combines rich vocals, infectious grooves, and vivid lyrics. The final sound is an addictive, foot-stomping mixture which will take you on a journey from genre-blending grooves to emotional ballads.
She's been compared to singers Fiona Apple, The Cowboy Junkies’ frontwoman Margo Timmins, as well as jazz songstress Sarah Vaughn. However, the overwhelming feedback is Jen Murdza has a voice and style all her own. The Boston Herald agrees and writes, Jen has a "strikingly supple voice".
Paul Jordan, BlogCritics.
↓ more ↓org writes, "Not since I first heard Diana Krall, nearly five years ago, have I been so excited about the advent of a fresh new female vocalist to the music scene, Jen Murdza is going to break a lot of molds and cross lines between genres, mark my words, she is the real deal."
Jen's love affair with music began at the age of 2 when her mom, who had a voice like Karen Carpenter, taught her to sing "Jennifer Juniper" by Donovan. Her mother was her first and biggest inspiration introducing her little girl to R&B and Soul legends Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, and Marvin Gaye. Jen continues to be inspired by a wide range of artists from Elvis Presley and Ella Fitzgerald to Portishead and Brandi Carlile.
Since its release, Things Untold, her self-produced debut EP, has garnered praise from the press as well as play from local television and over 35 regional radio stations (including WBCN's Boston Emissions and Whole Wheat Radio).
Kathryn Vercillo, Northeast In-Tune Magazine says, "If you walked in to a room where a friend was playing a CD by Jen Murdza, you'd immediately begin nodding your head in tune with the music and you'd ask your friend, "who is this?" That's because Murdza's soulful voice and her danceable music both sound like something that you might hear on the radio. The sounds are polished and the music is contagious in that way, which makes you want to learn the words just so that you can sing along."
Jen was featured in The Boston Herald in an article entitled "Sultry newcomer Murdza displays 'Untold' talent". Other publications which have featured Jen include Northeast In-Tune Magazine, Metronome Magazine, and Skope Magazine. Boston TV stations, Fox 25, and NECN (New England Cable News) invited Jen to perform live before their massive viewing audiences.
Jen had the honor of opening for international blues recording artist, Joe Bonamassa, at The Stone Church in Newmarket, NH to a sold-out capacity crowd and recently headlined at The Paradise Lounge in Boston.
All 5 songs from her EP have placed in NumberOneMusic.com's Top Ten Weekly Chart with "Lamb", "Flicker", and "Here" all reaching #1. She currently has over 100,000 plays.
Jen is currently in pre-production on her next album and will continue to perform around the Northeast. Keep a watch for dates in your area!
