The poetry of folk with the guts and passion of rock and roll, essential music for riding down side streets, under sewers and over mountains. A unique powerhouse of a voice, versatile and inspiring with depth of content, lyrics that fascinate.
Bio / Background
Karen Mulcahey's take on folk - blues - rock has bucket loads of attitude. She is unique, offering a refreshing sound coupled with lyrics that explode the myths of contemporary existence.
Karen uses influences from Blues artists such as Lead belly, through traditional folk ballads and indie anthems to modern stripped down rock artists in the genre of The White Stripesand the Strokes.
Karen's live performances have a tendancy to shock audiences as she musically lashes out with an upbeat attack on anything from herself to the hypocrisy of those in power, before lulling the audience on a melodic journey through an achingly beautiful, exotic landscape. When settled into an atmosphere of calm waters, Karen changes the rules: The result? An audience totally won over by the power and humanity of her songs and the charisma of her performance.

She has been described as 'An angel who's just downed a bottle of whisky' (Muse)
Each track seems to catch listeners and audience members differently, consistently fuelling debate amongst her fan base.
Biography:
Hailing from Sheffield via Liverpool, singer - song writer Karen Mulcahey has spent the last year and a half gigging her original material around the north of England with excellent guitarist Luke Pepper.
Karen's unusual background conprises of 4 years touring self - penned plays whilst working in everything from factories, breweries and offices (from which she was often fired!) to earn a crust. Throughout this time Karen continued to busk on the streets of Warrington and the north until the urge to unleash her own material on the world took over! Her musicial mission has just begun!
Luke Pepper has been playing the guitar obsessively since the age of ten and and has played in most venues in England. Luke joined forces with karen after a chance and drunken meeting in a pub brought about a similar epiphany.
Karen's work has received critical acclaim from local musicians and favourable comments from those she has supported including Lisa Mills, Tegwen Roberts, Derrin Neundorf, Colin Vearncombe and The Zombies. She is still in her twenties and fast building a reputation as a performer who injects the folk - blues - rock scene with a raw energy usually reserved for punk bands.
Karen 's music has been described as 'The poetry of folk with the guts and passion of rock 'n'roll' (Silencebreakerfilms) whilst her vocal prowess has been described as 'Unlike anything around at the moment...a unique powerhouse of a voice, versatile and inspiring' (Muse Magazine).
Karen wants her audiences to ride with her '..down side streets, above mountains and under sewers' and audiences can testify 'the smell is more like sucess than anything else'. (The Advertiser).
She recently performed at a 'Love Music, Hate Racism' concert, where she was called '...a lady with a future in music, raw and beautiful all in one, words essential in the arena of the singer - songwriter.' (Classic Rock Society) and is now taking tour bookings to add to her list of impressive venues such as The Edinburgh Fringe and this years Arts For Life in Zambia. Check her out.
