Southern Roots-Rockin Soulful Blues with influences from Memphis to Muscle Shoals. Great songwriting, heavy keyboard rhythms, funky slide guitars and gritty vocals.
Editorial review
This, the second CD from Rick Moore &Mr. Lucky, simply reeks of Memphis soul and down-home blues. The CD is filled to the rim with straight-ahead rhythms, melodic hooks, stinging guitar, and Moore's throaty vocals, all melting together to form a smooth, impressive recording. Comparisons can be made to such diverse artists as J.J. Cale, Delbert McClinton, and Little Feat during the first and second listen, but by the third spin, it was obvious that Rick Moore is most assuredly his own man, with his own unique style and Southern accent. They say 13 is an unlucky number. Not so with Mr. Lucky, whose 13 tracks herein, 11 of which were penned by Moore himself, are all winners. "Take It Down to Memphis" rocks with some superior saxophone from guest artist Jimmy Hall and scorching slide guitar. And speaking of guests, Moore enlists a few other heavy hitters to add to the mix, including Jack Pearson, Wayne Jackson, and Jimmy Nalls. Albert King's "I Wanta Get Funky" is one of only two cover tunes on the album, and both it and B.B. King's "Sell My Monkey" are treated to new, almost Southern rock style arrangements at the hand of Moore, who is obviously as good at producing and arranging as he is at guitar and songwriting. On one of the album's most outstanding tracks, "Dark Before Daylight," Will Rhodarmor blows some of the meanest harp ever committed to disc, and the set opener, "Satisfied Man," is a real barnburner. Hats off to Rick Moore and Mr. Lucky for creating one super-fine blues album that is sure to leave you "satisfied." ~ Michael Smith, All Music Guide

This recording takes you way down south, all the way to the cotton fields and the banks of the "big muddy." come on! take a ride "through the heart of the south"!

Rick Moore is a singer/songwriter/guitarist/ from the cotton country of West Tennessee.
↓ more ↓Growing up in Bolivar, TN (just east of Memphis), he was exposed at an early age to the likes of BB King, Freddie King, to his dad's musical taste (Hank Williams and Fats Domino) and all the music that was made from Memphis to Muscle Shoals.
A guitar player since he was a youngster in the sixties, he grew up playing in local bands while working as a dj in high school. Howlin Wolf, Jimmy Reed and John Lee Hooker all served as influences through wlac in Nashville and a variety of Memphis stations. Carl Perkins was a hometown favorite.
While living in Memphis in the seventies and eighties he worked with blues great Don McMinn (Memphis blues revue), spent time with songwriter Kieth Sykes, and traveled the length of Mississippi with the Coon Elder band playing the jukes before it was popular to do so.
Rick later worked with groups ranging from the Amazing Rhythm Aces to singer Mink (Willie) Deville with whom he toured Europe in 1983. He spent time in New York, Boulder, and Key West before arriving in Nashville in 1987 and joining the thriving R&B, Blues, and Rock and Roll scene.
Rick Moore & Mr. Lucky have been "on the road" through out the 1990's sharpening their musical skills. the result is "Satisfied," this second cd of Rick Moore's. This recording contains great songwriting, slide work, and soulful singing...
the essence of living down south in the USA!
