Rhythmic and song-centered, Motor is everything that's right with rock and roll music.
Bio / Background
In the winter of 2000, Jamie Wilson and Roger Hesketh made some recordings on a 4-track tape deck. The songs blended various musical styles almost indiscriminately: indie-rock, '60s soul, country music, folk songs and traditional rock and roll. It all made sense though. After all, they like a lot of music.
A year later, the two songwriters put a new group together with Matt Lyons and Sarah Cox. Sarah and Jamie got married and Sarah changed her name to Wilson. Matt and Roger were going to get married too, for, you know, solidarity, but they weren't in love, and the world doesn't need another loveless marriage. The four later discovered a great taco stand and ate there together before every band practice. They called themselves Motor.
The music they have invented and recorded sounds only like Motor. Listen to it here. Then you can contact them - they'll play almost anywhere. All you have to do is ask. Motor may belong to them, but they're not stingy.
↓ more ↓Here's what the sales people are saying about the new Motor record:
Motor, The Mystery of EP was recorded in just over three days at the Dairyland Studio in Chapel Hill, NC, with Nate O'Keefe (Day Action Band) and mixed in Philadelphia with Brian McTear (Mazarin, Swearing At Motorists, Matt Pond PA).
Minimalists steeped in traditional underground rock and roll, Motor sets aside the current indie-rock conventions of cuteness and irony opting instead for a rhythmic, song-centered approach that recalls early records by the Talking Heads and the Velvet Underground's Loaded.
A group in every sense, Motor has no lead singer or front man. They exchange instruments often and have developed a freewheeling vocal style that finds bassist/guitarist Roger Hesketh and husband and wife, Jamie and Sarah Wilson singing one another's songs, chiming in and redefining the roles of lead and harmony vocals.
