Electro heavy metal that bruises and amuses like crushing brutal metal gods. We use machines to sound like we don't use machines.
Bio / Background
"Children should play with dead things!"
"What a great idea, that's hysterical, let's do that."
And so it began, on a warm summer's eve, ewww. Two friends, Randy Carter and David Novin began what would eventually become Motokops 2000. Standing outside a Chili's restaurant on that night in 1998, Motokops 2000, or MK2k, was born as a side project idea between the guitarist/programmer and vocalist.
The project became a reality when Randy's former band broke up and was unable to fulfill a previously booked gig...those bastards. The two put together 10 original songs in 10 days time and were able to play the show. It went well enough, if by well enough you mean terrible, but fun, that the two decided to continue the band and keep gigging and creating music.
Starting out with only two (2) members sounds a bit odd, but MK2k is anything but an average, run of the mill style band.
↓ more ↓They had considered adding a live drummer and bassist to the mix, but nixed the idea in favor of continuing working with the limitless potential of creating music digitally. They also ran out of places to keep the bodies. While most bands use computers, synthesizers, and Midi equipment to make them sound more mechanical MK2k uses these tools in an attempt to sound more like a full band.
Motokops 2000 has recently added a new member. Derrik Albertelli on guitar. Yes, that means they still don't have a rhythm section, but have three full members, okay Dave's a bit on the big side, so would you accept three and a half? This adds to their live presence without disrupting the original idea of the band.
The style of music the band plays cannot really be pigeonholed. Everything centers on Dave's catchy, chunky riffs, and Randy's aggressive vocal style, but from there, anything is possible. All styles of heavy music are touched upon. They have thrash, speed metal, punk, blast core and straight down the middle heavy metal songs interspersed throughout their diverse live set. There is also the generous amount of ridiculous humor saturating a large portion of what they write as well. They don't believe in taking themselves too seriously, otherwise they might implode like too many bands before them. Trust us, imploding can be quite messy.
With the long awaited release of there next full length CD "Only Pieces Remain" Motokops 2000 is on track to do some very Dave size things in the local music scene. That means big, for those of you scoring at home.
