Bio / Background
In February of 1991, Todd Shay and Missy Barclay met for the first time at a local club in Warren, Ohio. Both were there to check out the latest craze at the time - karaoke. Each was already an established singer and wanted a chance to perform songs that they had always wanted to sing. Missy had competed in several area contests and was victorious in many of them. Todd had just ended his current stint with the last of several bands that he had played in since 1985. He had also just ended his tenure at Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music where he majored in voice and music theory.
That night, both of them ended up meeting and performing a duet together. Shortly thereafter, they began dating each other and decided to form what is now known as Mortisha's Secret. Since then, they have performed at many nightclubs in the Northeast Ohio area. The two have been happily married since 1993 and have devoted their lives to the success of this musical act.
↓ more ↓Ever since the idea for this group was conceived, all of the emphasis was put on their live sound. After trying out several musicians and performing with some of them, they decided that they should use their combined talents and handle everything themselves. The advent of new technology (made available) allowed them to purchase the best drum and bass modules, sequencers, and synthesizers that money could buy. This would become the core of their sound. When this was complete, they added live electric guitar (which Todd plays) and their very strong vocal abilities. After putting all of this together and mixing it through their very, very current sound system, the end result was sonic.
In August of 2000, the couple released their debut CD entitled, "For Those Who Have Waited Patiently..." on their own private label, Empty Records. The effort received excellent reviews from area press and many copies have since been sold.
In February of 2002, the couple was asked to participate in the Cleveland Music Festival. They had they honor of performing on one of the biggest stages in the City of Cleveland - The Odeon.
In November of 2002 they released their second CD entitled, "Us Against the World", again on their own private label Empty Records. The band was reviewed by The Tribune Chronicle and Cleveland?s very own Scene Magazine.
They have taken their act to the next level and are looking forward to advancing even farther.
