Techno industrial sex rock
Bio / Background
Way back in 1995, an unknown independent CD was released that would cause controversy around the world.
The album was created by mastermind producer, Master James. The concept of the album was loosely based on the horror film, Phantom of the Opera as well as the ongoing real life drama of the infamous O.J. Simpson case.
Recording began in late 1994 in a make shift attic recording. Songs emerged dealing with unrequited love, kinky sex, oontrol issues, passionate lust and dark desires set to industrial dance beats and techno rhythms slashed with guitar riffs, choir vocals and sexy moans.
The cd was released in late 1995 under the name "Asylum Choir" to the world thru mailouts, internet word of mouth and music swapping. The results were incredibly divided between total praise from music aficionados and vile disgust from feminists.
↓ more ↓The cd even became the topic of conversation at Billboard's Summit Music Conference in 1996 where it was described as the most disgusting music ever produced and the possibly the downfall of new music altogther!
That same year,"Dead Girls Don't Say No" reached #7 in the top 50 on the Alphabeat Radio Network. This radio network is syndicated and broadcast to 14 countries in Europe and the Eastern Hemisphere! The CD stayed on the charts for over 3 months.
The band name had to be changed due to a complaint by Atlantic Records for a similar band name trademark and the CD is now marketed under the name "Mortal Machine".
Below are just a few reviews of Mortal Machine's CD, "Dead Girls Don't Say No".
" In their pursuit of fame and glory, one band has taken things a bit too far. In what is surely an attempt at reactionary publicity, Mortal Machine has released a CD entitled "Dead Girls Don't Say No".
Well, duh! They don't say thank you either after they've been strangled.
Vulture -like, the band is trying to capitalize on media frenzy surrounding sex-slayings that have been in the media. With songs like "Beg for it" and "Fisticuffs", Mortal Machine takes the listener to the edge of acceptable S&M. The lyrics are questionable and challenge any inroads of political correctness.
What I find weird is that there are three women in the band. Now not to be a prude or anything, but I don't think an album title which suggests the rape and murder of girls is very cool. Call me up tight , but attempting to gain by someone else's pain is rude.
Maybe if they think about what they are saying, they will burn the cds themselves!" - Room Magazine Canada
" Thank you for sending us the Mortal Machine album, "Dead Girls Don't Say No". Lately we have been promoting a number of hardcore techno and avant garde releases.'
But this Mortal Machine is far out the most lewd, erotic and subliminal sadomasochist techno/industrial outfit we ever encountered!
"Dead Girls Don't Say No" is truly decadent stuff. A raunchy mixture of different musical styles, resulting in a hot steamy soundtrack of exciting, yet sleazy sexual urges.
In short, this material IS HOT!!
Songs like, "Master Control", Fuck" & Harder Faster" are state of the art all the way.
Needless to say, we like it and are going to promote it on our radio station.
Our listeners will freak out completely!!!!!"
Rodger Verberesky - Radio Venom, Belgium
After clearing out our closets here at INDEBASEMENT Records, so to speak, we have discovered a couple hundred copies of that infamous album still remain.
