Bio / Background
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Mary Martin Stockdale fell in love with the piano at a young age.
She began her classical training at five and wrote her first original piece at eight years old.
Mary has taught piano for over twenty years and has composed original, improvisational pieces throughout that time.
Mary's love affair with the West began when her family moved to the mountains of Arizona in her teens.
Now living in northwest Colorado with her husband and two daughters, Mary continues to draw inspiration from the overwhelming natural beauty of her surroundings.
A prolific composer, Mary possesses a unique skill for translating visual imagery into strong musical themes which form the basis of her fresh and surprising improvisations.
Mary continues to teach, compose and perform full-time from Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
↓ more ↓COLORADO ARTIST #1 ON CHARTS Colorado composer and pianist, Mary Martin Stockdale, recently attained a career high when her latest CD, "Trout Creek Lullaby", garnered the top spot on the international New Age Voice Charts.
New Age Voice magazine reports that the compact disc reached #1 in December after debuting at #2 the month before.
Stockdale's second recording, "Trout Creek Lullaby" is currently being played on over 150 radio stations worldwide, including stations as far away as Belarus and Romania.
"I'm absolutely thrilled," said Stockdale from her rural home west of Steamboat Springs.
"My goal has always been to share my music with the world.
It's very gratifying to know that so many different people in so many different places enjoy my music." "Trout Creek Lullaby" follows her debut recording, "Portraits on the Piano", which rose as high as #3 on the charts in 2000.
Both CDs are comprised of original solo piano improvisations inspired by Nature and the Rocky Mountain West.
"Mary is an extremely talented and prolific composer," says producer, John Michael Reedy.
"Her compositions have the depth of classical and instrumental music, while still being thematic and very accessible.
We're very pleased that the New Age folks have embraced Mary's music so fully." Mary Martin Stockdale continues to compose, teach, and is planning a limited tour this summer.
She lives with her husband and two daughters along the Trout Creek in Northwest Colorado.
