Mind Soup returns with the anticipated follow up album, LOVE SONGS FOR GIFTED CHILDREN. This album has the classic Mind Soup artistry intact but also sees an evolution to incorporate an ever-expanding range of influences. The music is confident and has purpose. It spans from slightly dark and brooding, to fun and inspiring. Some of the musical dirges from THE RULES OF NOTHING have been replaced with shorter thematic portraits, which should excite new and old listeners alike.

Having a starting lineup of Alex Windisch, Max Monks, Chris Ertel, and BJ Schweinlin, Mind Soup began in Cincinnati OH as a 4 piece band with psycadelic roots. After a few months of writing and a general disdain with the material, it was discovered that every band member was into electronic music on the side.

An eclectic and engaging album certain to appeal to those with interests in progressive and electronic music as most tracks are a genuine hybrid. Some tracks remind me of my Tangerine Dream albums, some of Eno, some of Vangelis, but the influences are more diverse than this suggests. Every track is interesting in its own way and the titles are cleverly chosen to reflect the music's theme. The tracks sound excellent on headphones. Why not try Umami and see if you like it, although you need to be aware that this is rather more percussive than most of the other tracks. I would recommend this album to all who enjoy progressive electronic music.
