Bob Dylan meets Rob Thomas
Bio / Background
Cellar Records recording artist, Michael Davis, born in Springfield, Illinois, grew up in the small town of Petersburg, Illinois. Ever since he could remember, Michael has had a passion for music, either listening or playing. At the age of nine, Michael started playing flute and one year later, took up the trumpet, which he still plays today.
In early junior high, Michael decided that he would learn to play bass. Michael would practice for hours after school and eventually, started writing his own material.
After a few years of trying, Michael finally formed a band. On October 26th, 2002, "Friday Nite" took the stage for their first half hour gig at New Salem State Park opening for a dinner theatre. The band stayed together for the next three years and eventually met up with their local producer and friend, Junior Stevens, to record and independently release their self-titled album of original material. Geography eventually split the band apart.
↓ more ↓After the breakup of Friday Nite, Michael taught himself how to play acoustic guitar and has been singing and writing ever since. His first six-song EP, Sappy Songs for Sappy Days, was self-released in June of 2006. From the catchy Spanish-style opening riff of "The Devil Wears Red" to the introspective look at breakups in "Giving Up The Fight," Michael creates his own style, often referred to as Bob Dylan meeting Rob Thomas. He has shared the stage with many outstanding artists including Dave Barnes, Rob Blackledge, Dave Tamkin, Tim Blane, & Beau Bristow. His live show is not to be missed!
Michael's first full-length studio album, "One Down", is an explosion of sound and emotion. From musings about his own future ("Bob Dylan") to his carefree attitude towards life ("Give A Damn") to the pain and happiness that only love could bring ("Still Here" & "Look In Your Eyes"), Michael lays his heart and his life out for the world to hear. This is one disc that you will have to buy two of since you will surely burn right through the first one.

Good Music but Vocals leave room for improvementsdfrcf wrote on November 01, 2009
Love the instrumentals. Very soothing. Just wished would put more into the vocals. At times I could barely hear him (example: Cry). I think the potential is there.
