Bio / Background
Nathaniel ("Mickey") Henry started singing at a very early age as a back-up tenor in his father's group ("The Faithful Gospel Singer") in Stockton, Alabama in the year of 1956, and performed with them until he graduated from high school in 1961. Upon completed from high school Mickey relocated to the state of Delaware, and joined the Armed Forces and served for three (3) years. He began singing in 1964 with "The Calvary Gospel Singers" as a back-up tenor, and performed with this group up until 1980. In 1980 to 1982 he was the lead singer for "The Dedications." In 1982 he joined "The Gospel Ambassadors" (now known as Jay Caldwell & The Gospel Ambassadors), and sang second (2nd) lead until 1997.
In 1997 Mickey formed "Mickey Henry & New Direction." Their home base is New Castle, DE.

The group is a traditional gospel group, and has traveled throughout parts of the East Coast singing, and spreading the Word in gospel music. Mickey Henry and New Direction has released the group's first recording on September 14, 2001. The title of this talented group's first CD is "Grateful." It is a stepping-stone for the world to get acquainted with the talented Mickey Henry & New Direction. The integrity of their dedication, and commitment to gospel, their daily lives, and stage performance is reflected in this recording.
If you were to ask Mickey what inspired the title of this CD, he will tell you that when he began thinking back over his life, and thought about how good God had been to him over the years. He thought back to his childhood (coming from a poor large family), and how he had to wear hand me downs everyday. He also thought about how they had said they he and his brothers were not going to make it, but through it all, and with God's amazing grace they made it up to the state of Delaware from Alabama. Mickey Henry's family settled in Delaware, and started anew. God blessed the entire family throughout the years, and he is still blessing them now, and because of all the wonderful blessings God has proved for himself, and his family he is so "Grateful."
Throughout the years that "Mickey" was singing, God was also inspiring him to write, and publish a few favorite songs that have been heard and sung down through the years. This inspiring singer/songwriter has truly blessed us all with such recorded songs throughout the years (when he sang with The Gospel Ambassadors). You should all remember on the "Leaving Jericho" CD by Jay Caldwell & The Gospel Ambassadors the very popular song "The Lords Alright" and, Over and Over (co-written by his wife)" on their " Near The Cross" CD. There are many other songs written, and recorded by The Gospel Ambassdors at the time that he sang with this group.
On the "Grateful" CD we are again blessed with the songwriting of the very versatile, and talented Mickey Henry with the following songs: "Leaning On Jesus," "Grateful," "Thank You Jesus," "I Found A Friend," "Angry," "When I See Jesus," and the re-arrangement of "Resting In My Home." Each of these songs have very special meanings to Mickey, and if we just look at the titles of each song, we can honestly see what this great artist is telling us in the songs, and he is also telling us the Word of God, and his love for us all.
Mickey Henry & New Direction is an inspiring group of men that sing their hearts out doing traditional quartet gospel. It is gospel that stirs your soul, and makes you want to hear more, and more.
To be truly blessed, and hear songs that are felt in your hearts, please be so kind, and get this music to add to your collection of great gospel music. You will never regret it. God Bless!
