Mellow indie-rock brought forth in a defiantly creative way, including home-made samples of skateboards falling, pianos from university buildings, and cymbals played with spatulas.
Bio / Background
Meryll officially formed in October of 2003 at the University of Texas in Austin. After Andrew, Alex, and Kyle had gotten together to put together a few songs, Meryll played their first show in Waco, Texas with eventual label-mates Ethan Durelle.
Over the next 5 months, the group added Art on bass and made their way up into the DFW area, Waco, Houston, and the Rio Grande Valley slowly honing their sound. Early in 2004, Esotype Records offered the band a chance to start working together and Meryll jumped at the chance.
In April of 2004, a relationship between the good folks at Esotype and Meryll began to take hold. The group ducked into the studio to record a song for Er Compilation One. Everyone enjoyed themselves enough to the point where Esotype offered the group a chance to do something more involved in the form of a full-length album.
Tracking began in October of 2004 for what is now known as "You've Got Cousins.
↓ more ↓" The title of the album is an old lyric from the song of the same name, but the line was cut from the demo track. The music from the passage appears on the album, but the only remnants of what Andrew sang appear in the title of the album.
The record was produced completely in-house by Jeff Price & Meryll, save for the mastering which was taken care of by Allen Corneau at Essential Sound down in Houston.
The record was released on February 22, 2005 and will hopefully serve as an alternative to an industry where the trend is, unfortunately, repetition and laziness when it comes to art and the way it is created.
