A hybrid of "ol' school" grooves and modern beats set against warm, soulful vocals for a stunning r&b poprock universe.
Bio / Background
Annapolis MD's Meg Murray is one of the best singers of her generation. Her newest release "READY" is a collection of song demos written for a major label production with hip-hop producer Timbaland (Missy Elliott, Aliyah, Justin Timberlake). After her contract expired with no major deal, Murray hunkered down in Annapolis with Todd Kreuzburg to produce her fourth album, which she released in November 2002 on her own label, Girl Island Productions.
Formerly the lead singer of the Mid-Atlantic R&B/funk band Non-Fiction and the SAW Award winning acoustic duo August West, the Wammie nominated Murray's love of the R&B styles of the 70's is evident in her lyrics & melodies, in the arrangements on "READY" and in her soulful voice, while the production of this record is unmistakeably modern.
Murray's songwriting is evocative and personal, even a little political.
↓ more ↓Each song is a landscape where the emotion in both the music and vocal performances give life and color to each story being told. Producers Todd Kreuzburg & Meg Murray take some interesting paths with today's music technology, to get more out of each sound setting, with impressive results.

Meg Murray READY
by Michael Buckley Chesapeake Music Guide January 2003
Finally, the long anticipated new CD from the incredible Meg Murray has arrived, and it was worth the wait. Meg Murray is a powerhouse of vocal talent with a commanding stage presence. Over the years Meg has proven time and time again that she can sing any style of music. This time Meg Murray brings us a CD chock full of funky power pop, music to get your body moving, with a healthy dose of tender ballads to round out the affair.
From the opening track, a Sly come Chaka, schwaka wakka groovalicious "Ready" to the swirling guitar driven post psychedlia of "Turnaround" and "Faith", Meg's new Cd rocks and thumps like a heart on fire. Then, with grace and touch, the waters smooth outon "Perfect" and become reflective with "The Words" and "Arrow".
Meg Murray creates a chorus of vocals, singing all the parts herself, and the programming sometimes reflects instruments that may not be there through the magic of computers and samples.
Meg Murray's "Ready" is co-produced by Todd Kruezburg and Meg Murray with many musician collaborators contibuting along the way. Guitars play a large part in the mix when Kreuzburg is joined by Meg's longtime musical partner Bryan Ewald and the results are stunning.

Meg Murray
Ready to Play
By Maria Villafana

A slender blonde with a voice that just keeps getting better, Murray was approached by producer Timbaland (Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake's new solo release "Justified") a couple of years ago.
She spent time in Manhattan recording with him but the project was shelved. "I was with the right people, at the right place, at the very wrong time."
The experience did open doors into the world of hip-hop, as well as give Murray insight into the music business and the studio process, which she says was "like going to graduate school."
Once her contract with Timbaland expired and she regained control of her songs, Murray hunkered down in Annapolis with Todd Kreuzburg to produce her fourth album, "Ready," which she released in November 2002 on her own label, Girl Island Productions. "A Lover's Lament" -"It's a wish" she says... Murray describes as the first happy love song she's ever written.
