Bio / Background
PAMELA McPHERSON-CORNELIUS
Pamela is an experienced as well as a flavorful vocalist, who has been singing since the tender age of three. She was destined to be a musical sensation, not just because of her family’s background, in music. Arthur Prysock her godfather, who was the instrument of her being. Pamela’s father Arthur’s bass player-Lucky Romain met her mother Shirley McPherson. a singer with a local group while touring Army basses in the fifty’s. Pamela is the product of that union. Pamela‘s uncle Donald McPherson, was the original lead singer of the legendary group “The Main Ingredient”.
Pamela sings every where she goes, even if there is no music playing. Once during her many trips to the Apollo Theater, Al Green was appearing, and because she was always backstage, one of his staff heard her singing.
↓ more ↓Fortunately for her one of his background singers came down with a sore throat and at the age of seventeen Pamela got the change to sing background for him for the last three performances. Also after one of the shows at the Apollo, Pamela got the chance to speak with the legendary “Queen of Soul”, Ms Aretha Franklin, Pamela still has the photograph.
Singing as the soloist in the church has always been one of Pamela’s passions. Singing with the “United Negro College Fund Choir” on the stage at Carnegie Hall alongside of Tramine Hawkins was a great thrill but not as mush fun as singing duets with the legendary Cissy Huston on tour in Texas and Mexico.
Pamela’s many talents have taken her around the country and around the world. Pamela has played before the Governor of Barbados and the Ambassadors of Tobago and Morocco. As well as an entertainer for the Chandler Cruise Lines aboard the SS Britanis, traveling to and from Mexico.
Pamela was one of the many entertainers who performed under tents at the “1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. She was invited back as one of the first Black performers to be televised on the Norwegian Grammy show in 1995, where the Storytellers, received a Grammy. She was a part of that recording as well as three recorded CD’s.
When at home, Pamela can be seen in many clubs in and around the tri-state area which include: “The Cotton Club”, “The Supper Club”, “The Sugar Bar”, “The Lenox Lounge”,” Showman’s” and the “St. Nick Pub”, just to name a few.
She is currently working on her own project, titled “THE LIFE OF A SUPERSTAR”, which features great musician including drummer John P. Cooksey formally of “Phyllis Hyman” and “Ashford and Simpson”, Stanley Banks bass player with, George Benson”, Ed Cherry guitarist to many great musicians and David Lee Jones saxophone and flutes, with too many credits to name.
Vocalist, percussionist, songwriter, producer and costume designer are just some of the many things that make Pamela who Pamela was destined to become.
Pamela has added a new element to her adversity; she has started acting once again. She had staring roles in the stage productions of “Top Hat and Tales”, “Purlie” and “West Side Story” while in High School. And the lead roles in “A Mother Cried for Her Children” as well as “The Waiting Church” produced by Mattie Wilson. Pamela is now involved in an Off-Broadway production based on the life of music icon Barry White. She plays the sister of his second wife Glodean; Linda, who was also one of the “Love Unlimited Singers”.
