Editorial review
Lyrics must be what matter to Suzanne McDermott; they move outside and around the structure of her music. This could be exciting, but she doesn't have enough elasticity in the music to make asymmetrical structures work. One wishes the songs were even more free form, allowing the free verse to tell her stories. Otherwise these are lovely songs, produced simply and sung from the heart. Her vocals are intimate and breathy with a rich deep timbre. The record sounds great with a spaciousness that can only be described as old (not old-fashioned, but present and natural). ~ Richard Meyer, All Music Guide

Suzanne McDermott sings and writes out of what appears to be an endless source of wisdom, clarity, and innate musicianship, offering us a collection of songs that are as intelligent and thought provoking as they are beautiful. Blessed with a lush, clear voice and a very real sense of humor, Suzanne creates an instant rapport with any audience. She has shared the stage with Gore Vidal, Dory Previn, Bert Jansch, Roger McGuinn, Bill Morrissey, Cheryl Wheeler, Livingston Taylor, Tom Paxton, Laurie Lewis, Dar Williams, Martin Sexton, and many others and has performed throughout the US at such venues as Passim, Siné, CB's Gallery, Godfrey Daniels, Fiddle & Bow Society, Eddie's Attic, The Bluebird, McCabe's, and The Freight & Salvage. "A thoughtful, literate and serious singer songwriter deserving of attention." Sing Out! Magazine
"Sentiments so strong that they're scary. These are songs that make you think."
Marvin Minsky ~ Japan Prize Laureate
"Poetic songs lifted by a lovely voice, which recalls English singers like Maddy Prior."
The Boston Globe
"With her lilting voice and melodic twists and turns, McDermott is slightly reminiscent of Joni Mitchell and early Rickie Lee Jones. With near epic songs like "California Sun" and "The 3 Dreams of J. Robert Oppenheimer" she makes almost any comparison obsolete." Performing Songwriter Magazine
"Her song writing is soulful, poetic, spiritual, and demands the full attention and interaction of the listener." Jack Sutton ~ Harmony Ridge Music, Belmont, CA
"Lyrics which repay repeated listening and a voice which recalls Judy Collins." Dirty Linen
In Performance ~
"Our "Folkstage" guest was Suzanne McDermott who gave a smashing two-hour concert. I believe she ranks among the best songwriters of the past 50 years. She's also a first-rate singer and guitarist. I usually judge an artist's abilities by the audience reaction, and the audience went absolutely nuts for her. No one wanted to leave at the end. She had to ask them to temper their applause so she could fit the set she planned into the broadcast. She was utterly professional and a pleasure to present as well." Rich Warren, Host/producer WFMT's "The Midnight Special" & "Folkstage"
