If a big band combined with a singer songwriter sound, it would blend into orchestrated pop rock nuggets like Matt Jasper's As A Matter Of Fact.

Scenes From The Scene: March 2007
by Matt Jasper
After over two years of inspiration, preparation, distractions, and looming questions, my album As A Matter Of Fact will be released this month. The record release party is booked for March 25th, the discs are duplicated, and the details have been ironed out. It has been a long journey, one that started shortly after I had completed my 2004 album The Distance Between.
That album was based off of my old long distance relationship. It had begun to fray, after the strains of space had taken its toll, and the relationship ended months after the album was released. I wrote a series of songs based off of the breakup, and decided to fill them out with a backing band. After a few rotating band members, we rehearsed and performed some shows together. By the Spring of 2005, Toby, Justin, and I decided to go into the studio. I spent many drives home listening to rough cuts we had laid down hours before.
↓ more ↓Rich put in the time along with us, guiding us when we might have lost focus otherwise, and adding input when he heard potential.
We laid down the drums, and most of the bass tracks together with a scratch guitar that summer, although the band dynamic was beginning to get a bit strained. By September, we split up the band, and I decided to put the album on the back burner. I was in the midst of a residency at the Pisces Café in Babylon, and had met a new girl at one of my shows, after a year of remaining single.
While my new relationship thrived, the record collected digital dust. In my head, I had decided to scrap the project, as too much time and effort had been spent on it, without many tangible results to show for it. Yet, by the next spring, it was the relationship that had begun to wind down, and I returned to the album. I laid down the majority of the overdubs, layering guitars, vocals, horns and bells over tracks that were half finished, and half a year old. After recruiting Guy to play bass for a few tracks, he added strings to the recordings. The record was mastered by the end of October 2006, after a month of rigorous mixing.
All the while, I had been discussing the artwork with Jesse, going over concepts for the booklet and cover artwork. He showed me some sketches, and by November had scanned them into Photoshop. Still, the artwork seemed like a slow process, although it had taken much less time then the actual recordings. The finished product was worth the wait, as a sleek pulp comic cover showed a smoking detective having just missed his subject. By the middle of January 2007, the artwork was complete, and I had submitted the art to the duplicator.
I had also begun another relationship, and Amanda had taken on the responsibility of redesigning my webpage. By mid February, www.mattjasper.com was reloaded with graphics from the album artwork, and well designed layout. Around the same time, I had received the albums back from Tom Cavanagh, who had done the duplication, as well as reprinting The Distance Between, which had sold out by that point. After holding a few album assembly parties, I sent the copies to the necessary online stores, press and stations. Everything put into place, now all which was needed was to wait for 7PM on March 25th, and the record release party at the Pisces Café in Babylon.
