An eclectic blend of world beat and progressive rock featuring vocalist Laura Kaye - imagine "Aerosmith meets Yanni in an undisclosed location and they actually get along much to everyone's surprise."
Bio / Background
The seeds for Sanctuary were planted a few years ago when vocalist Laura Kaye and Mark Wood had the idea of creating a CD of production music (music for t.v. shows, commercials spots, etc.) featuring Laura's voice as more of an instrument; using syllables rather than specific lyrics to create moods that could be interpreted by listeners based on their own perceptions. Although the initial goal of the project was to create somewhat generic music that could be used in an assortment of mediums, Mark and Laura found that they were really enjoying the process of creating this type of inspirational dramatic music and they ended up spending a lot more time on it than they had originally intended. They developed the existing pieces, really fleshing them out, and wrote a bunch of new stuff to encompass their vision of something along the lines of "Aerosmith meets Yanni in an undisclosed location and they actually get along much to everyone's surprise" kind of thing.
↓ more ↓The resulting Sanctuary CD is an exploration of this style of vocal instrumental music with Mark's electric violins soaring all over the place and Laura's vocals running the gamut from gutsy hard rock to moody sensual tones. Some songs have real lyrics, some songs have Laura's invented syllable language, and some are purely instrumental.
Many talented musicians came together to help record the Sanctuary CD; Mark and Laura were ESPECIALLY lucky to record a good deal of it at Celine Dion's personal recording studio in Canada with several members of her band, with whom Mark had the pleasure of working when he toured with Celine (Marc Langis on bass, Yves Frulla on keyboards, Dominick Messier on drums, and Paul Picard on percussion).
